The Nomos Club Sport Neomatik in Indian Summer colours
Friday - 06 October 2023
The new Nomos Club Sport Neomatik has arrived in a 39mm size, boasting colours that evoke the Indian Summer
Last year, the Nomos Club Sport Neomatik dropped a few sizes. Originally measuring a much larger 42mm diameter, some may have considered it a little on the large size for Nomos’ standards. The younger and smaller 37mm model was well-received amongst enthusiasts looking to don something altogether more manageable to their slender wrists. The original Neomatik version was also the first to offer a sunray finish upon its dial alongside an Oyster-style bracelet and a date function. While the 37mm abandoned the date feature, it certainly made up for it in other areas. In fact, the 37mm Club Sport Neomatik was a great unisex option. So great, that many Nomos fans felt it would be sad not to see it stick around. Nomos agreed, and now brings a new version to the line-up, this time dressed in rather indulgent tones of Tobac, Ember and Smoke – all of which evoke the shades of an Indian Summer.
The super slim movement
The new Nomos Club Sport Neomatik is also a success from a technical perspective since it houses a super slender movement. The Calibre DUW 3001 sits at the centre of the model’s case, ticking away beautifully thanks to Nomos’ proprietary escapement – the Swing System. Set at just the right pace, it enables the movement to achieve the highest precision within a mechanism that is now reduced down to a 5.8 percent friction loss. Other characteristics of the DUW 3001 automatic movement include tempered blue screws, a beautiful ribbed and polished finish and a three-quarter plate. The movement, with bidirectional winding rotor, comprises 27 jewels and rhodium-plated surfaces that can be admired through a sapphire exhibition option. In addition to all this, it produces a power reserve of 43 hours once fully wound and measures an impressively slim depth of 3.2mm.
The entire design of the new Nomos Club Sport Neomatik watches, just like those before it, has been tailored for complete comfort, even down to the meticulous craftsmanship of its bracelet, ensuring that wearing the watch all day long guarantees ease of wear. Its impactful design, as elegant as it looks on first impression, is incredibly robust and has been designed for daily wear. But what is notable about the new release is that its size is a sweet spot for many enthusiasts. Sitting between the two previous sizes, it measures 39mm and welcomes a trio of interesting dial colours that fans of the Club Sport just won’t be able to get enough of.
Before now, we have seen the Club Sport Neomatik watch from Nomos presented in a stunning petrol colour. The green nuances of the dial were a perfect accompaniment for the beautifully crafted Arabic numeral markers around the hour track. The same can be said for the Polar-coloured option. An unusual blue colour that compliments a surrounding stepped bezel in stainless steel beautifully. Its sunburst finish dazzles under the light, creating a spectacular display for referencing the time, day or night. The design of the Club Sport Neomatik is also perfect for weekends and busy weekdays, where full use of its 200-meter water-resistant case can be taken advantage of.
The dial options
The new Tabac version of the Club Sport Neomatik suggests a subtle masculine edge. In what can only be short for “tobacco”, the unusual dial colour radiates nuances of dark brown under the light. These new models are both muted and unique at the same time and are elevated by all the best features of the Club Sport watch rolled into one. The second option is the Ember dial, with golden-beige tones that hint to warm browns and even a slight suggestion of orange given the right light. There is no doubt that Nomos timed the releases of these watches perfectly as Autumn sets in. The last of the three new dial colours is the Smoke display. Tinges of light grey and silver come together in a sunray finish to create the perfect backdrop for a legible time-only display. There are two options available for each model. One is a plain closed stainless steel caseback that facilitates the option of a special engraving across its surface should you want to. The other is a sapphire-backed version that offers a unique glimpse into the performance of the automatic DUW 3001 movement I mentioned earlier.
Faithful to the design of the Nomos Club Sport Neomatik, the display of the watch features a mix of baton-style hour markers and Arabic numerals for the hour track. Outside of this is a more discreet but nevertheless legible minute track with five-minute increments singled out against the dashes. At the centre of the dial are the main hour and minute hands, tapering to an elegant point to complete their sword-shaped profile. These hands have also been treated with Super-LumiNova to match the hour markers, promising a legible display to read the time from at night. At the 6 o’clock location is the small second function with 20, 40 and 60 seconds marked out clearly.
