Introducing the new Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Historic Endurance Limited Edition watch
Saturday - 07 October 2023
Back in 2021, Cuervo y Sobrinos teamed up with Iberian Historic Endurance when it became the official timekeeper for the popular racing series. The partnership encapsulates everything nostalgic and exciting about racing in classic cars. A voyage that many drivers and their companions continue to partake in to this day. The Iberian Historic Endurance competition gives meaning to the acquisition of the classic racing car and transports the driver back in time to a culture infused with adrenaline, fun and emotion. The leader of the organisation himself, Diogo Ferrão, participates in several events similar to the Historic Endurance racing series, such as the Oldtimer Grand Prix at Nordschleife, le Mans Classic and Goodwood Revival.
With Historiador DNA
Now, the prestigious watchmaker with a Latin legacy has unveiled a bi-compax chronograph watch in a striking British green dial colour. The Historiador Historic Endurance watch is a limited edition timepiece. Enhancing the motorsport vibes further is the choice to fill the chronograph counters with an eye-catching silver hue. The model belongs to the Historiador watch collection – a series of innovative designs devoted to encouraging the wearer to rediscover the past just as strapping yourself into a classic racing car would do. The models from the range pretty much always explore a bygone era and the factors that have influenced a noteworthy period in time. The name of the collection is in honour of Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, Havana’s official Historian, who played a pivotal role in the restoration of the brand’s Havana boutique back in 2009, not to mention many other beautiful buildings. The brand recognises Dr Leal’s contribution to the heritage of the brand with this range of classic timepieces.
The new Historiador Historic Endurance watch
The new Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Historic Endurance watch captures the spirit of a relaxed yet competitive environment. This is the core concept behind the watch – a place that shares a passion for the racetrack but also a place where friendships are forged. Since becoming the official timekeeping partner for the event, Cuervo y Sobrinos gifts a personalised watch to the winner of the Index Performance of each competition, based on factors such as cylindrical capacity, age and type of car.
New to the Historiador watch collection is this twin-counter chronograph wristwatch in deep green nuances. The dial, with its silver-filled counters, evokes a harmonious look that is in keeping with the relaxed atmosphere of the Iberian Historic Endurance race. The colourways of the watch can be traced back to the 1900 Gordon Bennett Cup, where the colour of each car participating in the race reflected the nationality of its driver. This was before the rules changed and the nationality of the car team was then represented in the car’s paintwork.
The deep green dial of this new Cuervo y Sobrinos watch is accompanied by silver-coloured central hour and minute hands that match the small seconds function at 3 o’clock. The central chronograph is also executed in the same finish. The hand that stands out in this design is the minutes sub-counter hand, dressed in a legible black colour, defined by a prominent triangular tip. The Spanish and Portuguese roots of the racing event are also paid tribute to in the ‘Taquimetro’ lettering of the tachymeter scale around the edge of the dial, used for measuring speed based on distance.
The new Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Historic Endurance Limited Editon watch is crafted from stainless steel and measures a very manageable 40mm diameter. The back of the case is kitted out with the same material seen on the front of the watch – a sapphire crystal glass pane, treated with anti-reflective technology. The glass affords a clear view into both the dial and the inner workings of the performing Calibre CYS 8129. Here, you can also appreciate the number 76 adorned to the surface of the glass, relating to the number of limited edition pieces produced in this special design. The number also sits beside the official logo of the Historic Endurance race. Underneath this glass, the movement performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour, whilst showing off its beautifully finished oscillating weight with engraved detailing. The movement can also produce a power reserve of 42 hours once fully wound.
The new Historiador Historic Endurance Limited Edition watch is completed on a perforated black calf leather strap, giving the timepiece an undeniably sporty, racing spirit. Even the hole detailing is intended to evoke traditional racing gloves often used by racing car drivers of a bygone era.
