New Bremont Supermarine 500M Ceramic Watches in Jungle Green and Tactical Black
Tuesday - 03 December 2024
Tactical Black and Jungle Green are the two new colours ready to take you down to unfathomable depths. Meet the new Bremont Supermarine 500M diving watches.
No longer is there reason to suggest that the Bremont Supermarine feels like an obligation rather than a prerequisite. Sure, compared to the brand’s remarkably popular pilot watches, the dive watch collection may not have garnered the same attention it deserved. But brand CEO Davide Cerrato has certainly given it complete purpose now. Since jumping on board the family-run brand, he has given the models just as much gravitas as the brand’s aviation offerings. The flamboyant Italian has done to Bremont what he does best – breathing life back into brand identities and overseeing several important company relaunches.
Cerrato not only became head of the marketing and design department of TUDOR some years ago, where he catapulted the now-iconic Black Bay watch to success, using it as a launchpad to rebirth the brand, but he assisted with the integration of the historic Minerva manufacture into Montblanc and influenced the design of the 1858 Geosphere. Cerrato also landed himself the role of Creative Director of HYT before moving into his latest role with one of Britain’s most credible watchmakers, Bremont.
Bremont, of course, represents quintessential English charm (think tweed jackets, whisky flasks, old muddied-up Landrovers and disused airfields). Call it the most unexpected unification of the century, but casting cultural differences aside, Bremont and Cerrato are proving to be the perfect match. Since joining the company, we have seen a complete refurb of the Supermarine watch collection in terms of specifications and design. As an extension to that line, Bremont now introduces some 2024 Supermarine watches that have been field-tested to prove their extreme durability, both on task and not.
The new releases are larger in size, more water resistant and rock a commando look, all whilst celebrating the brand’s first almost full ceramic case. The change follows Davide Cerrato’s reshaping of the company’s portfolio, putting all the core models into one of three sectors; Land, Air, and Sea. Of course, the Supermarine belongs to the latter and resurfaced not so long ago with a new look – the Supermarine 300M. The brand’s Original Supermarine watch, which launched back in 2009, measured a confident 43mm and its design was largely based on a very famous seaplane – the Supermarine S6B and the Supermarine Spitfire aircraft. It even promised a formidable 500-meter water resistance and its movement came encased inside a soft iron Faraday cage to protect it from damage caused by magnetic fields. The architecture followed the brand’s Trip Tick recipe – a three-piece case construction with lugs that appear to melt over the ends of the case for an ergonomically streamlined “tool watch” look. Some parts of the brand’s Trip Tick case are machined by a CNC mill-turning machine, which gives them a level of finish that is unmistakable amongst experienced collectors. Comparing the original Supermarine watches and Bremont’s latest, modern dive tools throws up very few similarities but one very practical element it does keep is its 500-meter water resistance, making the new Bremont Supermarine 500M Ceramic Jungle and Tactical Black the tool of choice for professional divers and serious scuba fans.
Unlike the Trip Tick case that has served Bremont so well over the years, the new Supermarine watches now offer a ceramic case, which marks a first for the brand. This monobloc case boasts hardness and scratch resistance that is unsurpassed by most proprietary watch materials on the market and can also promise lightweight qualities. Here are all the details you’ll want to know about the new Bremont Supermarine 500M Ceramic watches in Jungle Green and Tactical Black.
The New Bremont Supermarine 500M Ceramic Watches
Sitting at 43mm in diameter and measuring a height of 13mm, the new Bremont Supermarine watches of 2024 are not inconspicuous by any stretch of the imagination. They are solely intended to attract a bit of attention, but at the same time, their stealthy colours make them perfect for all manner of underwater and land-based missions. Inside these ceramic cases is a titanium block that holds the mechanical movement in place. The confident crown protecting guards on the side of the case are also designed to protect the crown from impact and snagging while you take to the water. Meanwhile, Bremont experts choose a domed sapphire crystal glass front and treat it with layers of anti-reflective technology to protect the dial from any undesirable glare, no matter whether you’re under direct sunlight or artificial lighting. Another useful feature is the Supermarine’s helium escape valve which sits left of the case. The new Bremont Supermarine watches are also sandblasted to give them a matte tool-like execution, while the bezel is cleverly knurled for easy-grip purposes. One nice feature, in particular, is the way Bremont technicians have etched the numerals and markings in relief on the bezel using a laser for a precise and crisp outline. Although the watch case is made entirely of ceramic, the bezel is crafted from titanium and finished with a jungle green ceramic finish (for the green iteration) to match the hue of the case. Needless to say, matching ceramic colours to PVD coatings is no mean feat. In fact, coloured ceramics are a complex field of expertise – the shades of which need to be matched without any room for error. In examples like the new Supermarine watches, it’s clear to see that Bremont has perfected the art of colour matching and both the case and bezel are perfectly coordinated to give a consistent and coherent look.
Further compounding the unusual hues of the Jungle Green model is a matching green dial which boasts a gentle gradient. Super-LumiNova lifts the circular and trapezoid hour markers off the dive watch display, while the date anchors itself at the traditional 3 o’clock location, tastefully backed by a colour-matched surface. The new Wayfinder logo now takes residence upon the dial at 12 o’clock, sitting above the crisp Bremont lettering in a pale green hue. Here, we can see more obvious differences between the original Supermarine 300M watches and the new 500-meter water-resistant tools. The Arabic numerals, for example, have been replaced with different hour markers. The light green glow of the Super-LumiNova material makes for a great show at night, too, especially since it highlights the new arrow-shaped marker at 12 o’clock, characteristic of the new-gen Supermarine watch collection. Meanwhile, a fleck of orange can be found in the 15-minute markers around the sloping flange.
The PVD-coated titanium caseback, whether you opt for the black or green iteration, conceals a reliable modified Sellita movement behind it, for uncompromised accuracy – the Calibre BE92AV. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and produces a power reserve of 50 hours once fully wound. To complete the Supermarine 500M watches look, you have a choice of two straps. Opt for the NATO strap (light and dark green for the Jungle Green iteration, or black and grey for the Tactical Black iteration) for something more military refined or choose the colour-matched rubber band for something altogether sportier.
