The appealing thing about the Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five watch is that its design is based on earlier dive watches manufactured by the famous Swiss brand back in the 1960s. The collection harkens back to an important time in the dive watch story – a prominent era when recreational diving was growing vastly amongst enthusiasts. The younger Diver’s Sixty-Five watches we see here before us today, however, are incredibly trendy and are primed for modern-day wrists. At the same time, they’re all really affordable. The latest version to join the line comes in a smaller case size with two straps to choose from.

Retro fashion statements

Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five watches are fashionable 60s-inspired dive watches that create a huge presence on the wrist. Their personalities are both retro and present, appealing to experienced and new collectors alike. Oris released its first official dive watch back in 1965 and has never looked back since. The Diver’s Sixty-Five watches, released in 2015, celebrate the model’s 50th anniversary of this first dive watch and have been going strong since their year of launch. Oris does more than just commemorate a successful watch from yesteryear, though. The brand shows its devoted fans that it can meld sporty aesthetics with diving values – a balance that not all luxury watch manufacturers can easily achieve.

Since 2015, the Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five watch has been made available in various sizes and with different dials in an array of colours. Since retro dive watches are all the rage, Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five watches prove incredibly popular, with their domed sapphire crystal glass fronts designed to remind their wearers of the domed plexi glass from years gone by and their luminous hour markers that resemble aged tritium.

By exploring the Diver’s Sixty-Five watch collection by Oris here at Jura Watches, you’ll also see different styles available. Whilst some models feature Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock, others feature applied dot and bar-shaped markers. Either way, whether you choose a 42mm or smaller 40mm model, each stainless steel watch features a mix of polished and satin-brushed finishes upon its surface, achieving a watch that hangs beautifully in the balance of old and new. Now, let’s take a look at the latest Oris dive watch to enter this popular market.

The latest Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five watch to join the line is a chronograph complication. It comes in a smaller 40mm case size as opposed to the larger 42mm models and presents the time on a monochromatic dial. As part of Oris’ mission to do better, the model combines these retro diver aesthetics with a black leather strap sourced from a Swiss deer leather company that Oris has collaborated with recently.

Low-impact deer leather straps

The story behind the Oris and Cervo Volante collaboration points to the legal operation of deer culling, which takes part in Switzerland every year to control numbers. That said, up until 2017, very little has been done about the sheer waste of a natural by-product to come of these yearly culls. So, two entrepreneurs, Kadri Vunder Fontana and Conny Thiel-Egenter took the deerskins and made footwear and accessories from them. The brand recently crossed paths with Oris when it approached the watchmaker and asked about a possible collaboration, realising that their views on sustaining the planet were a shared passion with the renowned watch brand.

Cervo Volante straps promote low-impact methods. These beautiful leather straps tell a story by way of including the imperfections that have occurred during the life of each deer – a process that many manufacturers would instantly discard. This unique and respectful approach reduces waste. Each strap is manufactured in one of the last two remaining tanneries in the whole of Switzerland, practising 100 per cent vegetable tanning processes within its facility.

But that’s not the only reason why the new Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five watch stands out. The new model has sweeping lugs and a sporty persona that is achieved via a black dial adorned with chronograph counters positioned in a bicompax layout. The stopwatch features of the watch are enhanced further by a set of traditional piston-style push-pieces in polished stainless steel that facilitate easy operation over the chronograph. A black unidirectional rotating bezel completes the look of this sporty dive watch perfectly.

The new 40mm Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five watch, with its multi-piece stainless steel case construction, features a domed sapphire crystal glass front with layers of anti-reflective treatment applied to its surface this feature protects the surface of the dial, complete with Super-LumiNova coated hands and hour markers. Powering these visible hands around the dial is the Calibre 771, which produces a power reserve of 48 hours once fully wound it also performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour, promising a peerless performance behind a screwed stainless steel caseback.

As mentioned, you can opt for the black Cervo Volante deer water band, but the stainless steel bracelet option is equally as stylish, with its ergonomically formed links, tailored to wrap comfortably around the wrist. The bracelet secures to the wrist with a folding clasp adorned with the brand’s world-famous logo.
