Tuesday - 18 April 2023
With vivid shots of green colour and a lightweight yet modern black carbon-coated titanium case, the new Klepcys DICE Lime watch from Cyrus, limited to just 50 pieces, is complex in design yet effortless in style
The chronograph has always been well utilised as a tool that can measure successive events effectively. To do so, you need to stop, reset and start a timing quickly. True, you do need nimble fingers for a chronograph, but mechanisms have been introduced to help with the ease of measuring elapsed time. One of these is the flyback function, first introduced and patented by no other than Longines back in 1935, it enables these functions to be activated with the single push of a button. In 1922, however, Patek Philippe launched the rattrapante watch, which featured two centrally mounted seconds hands – one positioned on top of the other. The idea of the rattrapante watch is that two timings can be measured at the same time yet the events must commence at the same time.
With the ability to measure two timings, either independently or simultaneously, the Double Independent Chronograph Evolution (DICE) watch from Cyrus is a cleverly developed new concept for the chronograph, which first launched back in 2021. The Double Independent Chronograph Evolution allowed the wearer to measure two intervals independently thanks to the double chronograph afforded by the Calibre CYR718. In a scenario where two competitors start a race at the same time, the DICE watch by Cyrus proved to be an indispensable tool. At the same time, the Cyrus DICE watch promised an eye-catching design since the brand is known for its vivid colour choices. The company uses vibrant tones to differentiate between the recorded elapsed time for each chronograph measurement.
Using the same winning formula, Cyrus released the DICE Lime watch last year in fluorescent green tones. The addition of vivid yellow shots across its design enabled the chronograph functions to stand out even more. The mechanics of the watch were exposed through an open-worked dial and the case was crafted from grade 5 titanium, or grade 5 titanium with a black DLC finish. Now the new Cyrus Klepcys DICE Lime Carbon watch has arrived with a grade 5 titanium and black carbon case. The watch features many similar attributes as seen in the former model, with an open-worked dial that exposes green lacquered column wheels at 6 and 12 o’clock, along with chronograph dials that are arranged in a bicompax location.
All the details you need to know about the new Cryus Klepcys DICE Lime Carbon watch
The new Cyrus Klepcys DICE Lime Carbon watch measures a diameter of 42mm and a thickness of 16.5mm. It also features a crown at 3 o’clock that controls the features of the watch. Pulling the crown out to the first position will wind the movement, the second position will adjust the time and, alongside the pusher, will activate the chronograph. The 9 o’clock pusher at the number 2 position will start, stop and reset the chronograph. Protecting the skeletonised green dial of the new Cyrus Klepcys DICE Lime Carbon watch is a strong piece of anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass. It secures to a carbon fibre bezel and helps to uphold a 100-meter water resistance.
The 3D open-worked dial of the new DICE Lime Carbon watch by Cyrus features Arabic numeral hour markers on a sapphire crystal ring, which glow richly in blue emission thanks to a generous layer of Super-LumiNova applied to their surface. The minute markers on the black PVD flange are also luminous, depicting five-minute intervals. The flange also features a double-scale chronograph track in green and yellow. Two small hands in green and yellow can be seen at the 3 o’clock 30-minute sub-dial to match the yellow and green central chronograph seconds hands, whilst a small second sub-dial sits at 3 o’clock.
The hands on this new DICE Lime Carbon watch from the Klepcys range by Cyrus are rhodium-plated and are propelled by the in-house Calibre CYR-718 – the same engine used in the former model from last year. It beats to the rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a power reserve of 55 hours once fully wound. It comprises a staggering 51 jewels as part of its 443-piece construction and features a Swiss lever escarpment, a variable inertia balance wheel and a rhodium-coated barrel with a snailed ratchet wheel and a visible Cyrus logo that can been seen through the watch’s sapphire-backed case. The bridges of the movement, seen through the front side of the watch, have received an NAC galvanic treatment with an embossed sunray pattern and a satin and micro-beaded finishing. The open-worked mono-bloc rotor also has a sunray pattern and is engraved with a special “Conquest of Innovation” lettering.
To finish, the zesty lime green accents of the new Cyrus Klepcys DICE Lime Carbon watch are celebrated further with a matching Lime green Cordura strap and a customised folding clasp as well as a titanium bracelet – a first for the model.
