The Bell & Ross Vintage BR V2-94 “Full Lum” Limited Edition

Bell & Ross welcomes a new addition to its Vintage watch line – the BR V2-94 “Full Lum” Limited Edition – exclusive to just 250 pieces worldwide and promising a readable dial for wearing in the dark, in the cockpit or on the frontline.

Bell & Ross BR V2 watches are popular for very good reason. When the first model launched it offered collectors something larger, bolder and sportier than the BR V1, not to mention more aggressive. Now, the new Vintage BR V2-94 “Full Lum” Limited Edition watch is an iteration that can promise all the same characteristics but with a fully lume-coated dial, a sporty rubber strap and a useful chronograph function.

The evolution of Bell & Ross’ circular case…

If we rewind to the start of Bell & Ross, no one could ever have foreseen a round case coming. The manufacturer had built its reputation on square-shaped watches. But playing on its land, sea and air trope, the Vintage BR V2 series certainly hits a home run. Its circular-shaped case sits at home on the wrist of military tool watch collectors for sure. Last year Bell & Ross focussed its attention on growing its core range. This included its aeronautical and military watches from its Instrument and Vintage collections. With that in mind, it released the BR V2-92 Military Green, BR V2-93 GMT Blue and - sandwiched in between these two models - the BR V2-94 Aeronavale Bronze watch, adding a touch of “wow” factor. These functional tools for navigation and military use extended on the classical round shape of the Vintage BR V1 and V2 models exhibiting a somewhat conventional aesthetic compared to the squarish case shape of the brand’s flagship BR01 and BR03 watches. Similarly, the dial of the new BR V2-94 “Full Lum” Limited Edition watch offers more traditional design codes, similar to the V2 models released last year and comes in a 41mm case size, complete with a striking bicompax chronograph layout.

The new Bell & Ross Vintage BR V2-94 “Full Lum” Limited Edition

Fitting the legibility bill, the new “Full Lum” Limited Edition watch from the BR V2-94 series focuses on displaying the time most legibly. Exactly as its name promises, the dial of the watch is fully coated with luminescent material. The hands of the watch emit a bright green glow in dark conditions for instant time-telling and have been dressed against a Super-LumiNova coated display. Bell & Ross has used its green glowing technology in the design of the aforementioned BR V2 watch releases back in 2020, with its Super-LumiNova C3 material.

There will be just 250 pieces of the Bell & Ross Vintage BR V2-94 “Full Lum” made available worldwide. Even without its square-shaped case, the timepiece draws parallels between the watches from Bell & Ross’ Instruments collection. You will note that the counterbalance on the base of the central seconds hand is stylized in the silhouette of a military plane just like the original Vintage BR V2-94 Chronograph watch. A 30-minute timer is displayed at 9 o’clock, balanced by a running seconds subscale located at 3 o’clock. The pleasant balance of both counters is accompanied by a discreet albeit legible circular date aperture nestled between the 4 and 5 o’clock location. Modifications by Bell & Ross over the past few years have seen the sapphire crystal glass front acquire a more curved shape which communicates nicely with the thickness of the watch’s case.

The new Vintage BR V2-94 “Full Lum” Limited Edition watch also features elegantly curved and rounded lugs for an ergonomically formed profile against the wrist. These lugs lead to a supple black rubber strap which, understandably, imparts a sportier look on the wrist once secured with its foldable clasp (satin-finished and hand-polished). Both the screw-in pushers located at 2 and 4 o’clock on the watch’s robust case, together with an eye-catching crown at 3 o’clock exude a sense of confidence and masculinity. The Arabic numerals around the hour track have also evolved over the years. They now feature a crisp black frame that interacts nicely with a railroad minute track circling the periphery of the dial and the 60-minute scale on the surface of a black aluminium fixed bezel.

The metal partially-skeletonised and lume-coated central hands of the new Bell & Ross Vintage BR V2-94 watch are propelled around the dial by the BR CAL. 301 which has had a long run throughout the brand’s catalogue over the years. Based on the Swiss ETA 2894-2 movement, the self-winding automatic mechanism boasts a performance of 28,800 vibrations per hour and comprises a total of 37 jewels. With a reliable running time of 42 hours, you can alternate the watch with another favourite over an evening or two and find the watch has kept perfect time whilst off the wrist. The movement is put on show through the watch’s sapphire-bottomed case, granting a clear view into the meticulous operation of the beating heart whilst in motion.
