Introducing the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Chronograph Automatic Titanium
Thursday - 15 April 2021
Geared to suit the tastes of male horophiles, the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Chronograph Automatic watch features a lightweight titanium case that affixes to the wrist imparting a confident, sporty character.
Maurice Lacroix distils the sporty elegance of its flagship Aikon watch with a sophisticated chronograph imbued with all the collection’s finest hallmarks. Delivering the convenience of an automatic model to the wrist, the new watch, released in time for the Watches & Wonders 2021 event, elevates the Aikon watch to new heights. When the first member of the collection was released in 2016, it was equipped with a reliable quartz movement, but since then we have seen the Aikon powered by an automatic movement and dressed in a bronze material, as well as offered in different case sizes and skeletonised versions. Now the Aikon Automatic Chronograph is housed in lightweight titanium for the first time.
The Aikon’s design is based on the original Calypso watch developed by Maurice Lacroix in the 1990s. It embodies the distinct features of an archetypal sports watch, with its integrated case, flat sapphire crystal glass, practical water resistance and its signature 6 arm bezel. Also new to the collection, this year is the Master Grand Date version, which we covered here, equipped with off-centre dials and an innovative large double date aperture framed in brushed and polished rhodium to mirror the polished arms of the Aikon’s iconic bezel. Faithful to the original Aikon design, the new titanium version enters the collection with a barrel-shaped case and several brushed and polished finishes. Its integrated lugs allow for a more solid and compact feel once donned to the wrist.
The new Aikon Automatic Chronograph watch, armoured in its lightweight titanium case is once again, reasonably priced but this time communicates its sporty character through grey and deep blue tones. The dial imparts accurate information with lucid efficiency and features a robust titanium bracelet, easy-grip chronograph push-pieces on the side of the case and a confident 42mm case size. Its eye-catching design with flourishes of masculinity running throughout perpetuates the brand’s quest for perfection with a practical design that will serve the wrist as a loyal companion every day of the week.
The new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Chronograph Titanium watch feature a gun metal-coloured dial executed in a sunray-brushed effect with deep blue-filled chronograph counters placed 12, 6 and 9 o’clock. The counter located in the northern hemisphere of the display features a 30-minute scale, while the 6 o’clock sub-scale offers a 12-hour totaliser. The small seconds function can be found at 9 o’clock and each of the three snailed counters have been given white markings to enhance legibility. The central hour and minute hands are treated with Super-LumiNova material to assist with accurate timekeeping in the dark. The minute hands and chronograph second hand reach right out, kissing the detailed markings around the periphery of the display. Layers of anti-reflective treatment have been applied to both sides of the sapphire crystal glass lens, which acts as a protective shield across the surface of the dial. The Maurice Lacroix lettering has been relocated to the 3 o’clock position, accompanying a day and date feature dressed against a white background.
The new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Titanium model promises a water resistance of 200 meters making it ideal for swimming, snorkelling, sailing and a myriad of water sports. At the same time, it is a model well utilized for dry land too. The instrument’s rugged case and screw-down crown help to ensure a dry environment for the self-winding Calibre ML112 performing inside. The movement is capable of a 48-hour power reserve and has an architecture based on the Valjoux 7750. The cam-actuated self-winding chronograph movement is a tried and tested engine that oscillates at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Decoration wise – the ML112 is executed in Cotes de Geneve finishes and boasts a total of 25 jewels, all of which are concealed behind a screw-down caseback.
The integrated case of the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Titanium watch is fitted with a brushed titanium bracelet and a butterfly folding clasp. For more details on the new model or to place an order, you can speak directly with a member of our sales team at Jura Watches on 01335 453453
