Seiko Releases 5 Sports Double Hurricane Watch

The new Seiko 5 Sports Double Hurricane watch is dressed in a vivid orange colour for its dial and features a sporty black strip running through the middle of the display. Recreated from the brand’s original 1969 model, this collectable wristwatch from the 5 Sports watch collection is a tasteful balance of heritage and newness from the prestigious Japanese watchmaker.

Coincidentally, the collection has now been around for over 5 decades and celebrated its 55 anniversary not too long ago with four retro-come-modern wristwatches. Although very different in their own way, there are some similarities shared between all four of the new Seiko 5 Sports watches for 2023. They all take on a cushion-shaped case, which takes inspiration from the original 1960 SKX watch series. Each model also promises a water resistance of 100 meters and reinforces its durability with a Hardlex crystal glass front. Lastly, the watches are all powered by an automatic movement – the trusty Calibre 4R36.
A look at the new Seiko 5 Sports Double Hurricane watch
The new Double Hurricane SRPK11K1 by Seiko combines contemporary elements with features that nod to Seiko watches of the late 1960s. If you’ve always loved the look of these predecessors, you’ll enjoy the appeal of the new Double Hurricane watch. Embodying a perfect balance of heritage and newness, the watch has been crafted with great precision and features a 1960s-inspired bezel from the SKX series, as well as a special edition engraving on the back of its case. It draws inspiration from the legendary 5126-6030 Seiko watch released in 1969, which also went by the name “Double Hurricane”.
Encouraging its wearer to indulge in the spirit of Seiko’s past, the new Seiko 5 Sports Double Hurricane watch belongs to a category dubbed as the “Retro Colour Collection”. Its unmissable orange dial is adorned with a bold black horizontal bar running through the middle, giving the timepiece a racing-inspired element. The strip runs from 9 o’clock right through to 3 o’clock and incorporates the day-date window within its strip of blackness. The orange section of the dial is occupied by baton indexes for the hours that have been treated with luminous material to ensure they glow extra bright in the dead of night. Whilst the central second hand is executed in the same primary orange colour as the rest of the dial, the central hour and minute hands have been treated with the same luminous material as the hour markers.
The new Seiko 5 Sports Double Hurricane is a series production model that is not limited (good news if you’re wanting to hop on the train right now). The rare vintage Sports Divers watch recreation takes after the original Daini model – a very difficult watch to locate and afford these days. The 42.5mm watch is crafted from stainless steel and is topped with a black-coloured unidirectional rotating bezel that features a 60-minute scale upon its surface. Sitting at 13.4mm in height, it holds the automatic Calibre 4R36 at its centre, capable of producing a power reserve once fully wound of 41 hours. The top of the case is fitted with a curved Hardlex glass to protect the dial from wear and tear. The back of the case is fitted with a glass exhibition feature that exposes elements of the movement through its centre.
True to its promise, the 5 Sports watch comprises a water-resistant rating of 100 meters, a recessed crown, a durable case, a day-date display, an automatic movement, and lastly, a strong stainless steel link bracelet. It secures to the underside of the wrist with a three-fold clasp and a push-button mechanism that has been engraved with the famous Seiko logo.
