A Look at the NEW Tissot Sideral Watches for 2023
Thursday - 06 July 2023
Tissot revisits its original and popular Sideral watch design from 1971, now with a multicoloured luminous regatta countdown scale and a colourful, sporty perforated rubber strap
The year 1969 was important to Tissot because it marked a year that an industry-first was reached. Tissot released the Sideral watch, developed from fibreglass. This first fibreglass watch set benchmarks within the industry, offering a lightweight yet robust design for the wrist. Sports enthusiasts, in particular, found the material a great offering from the brand’s catalogue and in 1971, Tissot released the Sideral S version, fitted on a striking yellow rubber strap with an innovative fastening system.
Recently, Tissot has revisited the Sideral S watch with a series of 3 wristwatches that are designed for the modern era. Whilst doing so, the brand has ensured that the heritage of the watch remains intact. The new Tissot Sideral watches are designed for exploring the unknown and all harness the excitement of adventure with their bold and punchy designs. The new models are forged from Carbon – a material that equals fibreglass in its lightweight qualities and resilient nature. The innovative, forward-thinking design looks back to its past tastefully, whilst at the same time, offering its audience a positive outlook for the future of sports watches.
A pop of colour
The new Tissot Sideral watches now come in three exciting colours of blue, red and yellow. They each feature a black unidirectional rotating bezel that can be aligned with the central minute hand on the dial for easy measuring of elapsed time. The multi-coloured centre of each dial compliments the dominant colour chosen for the respective blue, red and yellow models. The yellow model features a vibrant yellow-coloured track in the inner section of the dial, accompanied by green and red accents marking out the first 10 markings on the scale. The blue version features a light blue scale with a matching blue rubber strap, with the same red and green accents highlighting the first 10 markings on the scale. Lastly, the red model is presented with a grey scale and features the same green and red accents. The multicoloured luminous material shown on the scale relates to a regatta-countdown gauge that captures a distinct 1970s spirit with contrasting colours to highlight the first 10 markings. The scale is presented in blue with turquoise and red accents. All features on the dial are also protected under a scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass front. The watches also feature a bold red central second hand and a date window set against a white background at 3 o’clock. Each of the new models is water resistant to 300 meters and features an innovative bracelet fastening system that we’ll go into more detail on shortly.
Giving each watch an undeniable sporty and contemporary look, the carbon case is cleverly marbled with flecks of respective yellow, red and blue colour. Inside the strong and robust black PVD-coated carbon case of the Tissot Sideral watch is the Powermatic 80 movement, which provides a power reserve of 80 hours. The watches also measure a 41mm diameter and feature a scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass front and an exhibition caseback crafted from the same material.
With features like a unidirectional rotating bezel and a sufficient water-resistant capability, it’s clear that the new Tissot Sideral watches are certainly geared for extreme sports, water activities and plenty of exploration. Inside the case of each of the three new colourful models is the automatic POWERMATIC 80 movement, which performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers an 80-hour power reserve. The engine is also a Nivachron movement and features a skeletonised rotor, exemplifying Tissot’s dedication to precision, reliability and accuracy.
It doesn’t matter whether you are exploring the great outdoors or spending some quality time with friends this summer with the new Tissot Sideral watch strapped firmly to your wrist - each design evokes a sporty elegance and features a matching-coloured rubber strap with a special fastening system. The feature was first designed for the Sideral watch in 1971 and has gone on to define the series, constituting a great conversation starter. The sporty perforated rubber bands that attach to each of the respective, blue, red and yellow Tissot Sideral watches for 2023 are resolutely sporty and can be transformed with an alternative band thanks to the use of their interchangeable quick-release bracelet system.
