Hands-on with the new Baume & Mercier Classima 2022 Watches
Friday - 30 December 2022
The Baume & Mercier Classima watches released for 2022 retain the much-loved features of the popular range, with leaf-shaped hands, Roman numerals and contrasting minute rings that match the colour of their comfortable canvas straps.
With over 180 years in Haute Horlogerie to look back on, Baume & Mercier remains a leading luxury watch brand with a motto firmly cemented in producing quality timepieces that are both accessible and affordable. Its story began back in the year 1830, when brothers Célestin Baume and Louis-Victor opened up a watch dealership in the Swiss Jura. Having enjoyed years of success in Switzerland, the brothers continued with the motto “accept only perfection, only manufacture watches of the highest quality” and set up a branch in London. The brand became known for its exceptionally built chronographs and grand complications and went on to win a total of 7 international exhibition gold medals and 10 Grand Prix awards. By the time William Baume joined forces with the brothers in the 1920s, the Baume et Mercier name became associated with a unique Art Deco style. By the 1940s, the watchmaker specialised in creating unique and innovative ladies’ wristwatches followed by the award-winning Galaxie and Stardust ranges, loved for their unusual case shapes.
Since then, Baume et Mercier continues to uphold its standards in creating unique, wallet-friendly luxury watches that have an innate universal appeal. These timeless designs include the Classima. Baume & Mercier Classima watches deliver exceptional performance and quality every day and come in a wide range of different dial colours and strap options, including these four new timepieces. Released earlier this year, they feature perfectly round stainless steel cases and are dressed in shades of olive green, sandy beige, rich burgundy, deep blue and khaki.
When William Baume and Paul Mercier said the words; “Why not combine the dependability and precision of a watch of the highest quality with the lightness and appeal of contemporary aesthetics? People want freshness, beauty, lightness”, they couldn’t have been clearer. The Classima watch line by Baume & Mercier fits in line with these goals, bringing together a range of unusual colours, comfortable material straps and clear, legible dials. The new models preserve the key characteristics of the range, including the leaf-shaped hands, rounded cases, classic Roman numerals and a minute track represented in a contrasting colour.
The new Baume & Mercier Classima watches for 2022
In this article, we’re going to look at four new Baume & Mercier Classima watches for 2022. Each one measures a case diameter of 42mm and has been crafted from stainless steel. The surface of each case has been beautifully polished to enhance a sense of luxury and indulgence on the wrist. These models are, after all, perfect for pairing with sophisticated or elegant attire at night and thanks to their less-conventional colour schemes, will add a touch of detail and character to any smart suit or professional ensemble. The first model we’ll look at is the reference M0A10694. It features a deep burgundy sun satin dial with rhodium-plated hands executed in the familiar leaf shape. White Roman numerals make for a stark contrast against the deep red tones of the dial, as does a blue canvas strap, whilst a deep blue minute track and a date window located at 3 o’clock complete its layout.
The second reference in the latest Classima releases from the Baume & Mercier brand is the M0A10695, which evokes sand-inspired tones and textures with its beige minute track framing a slate sun satin-finished dial. The minute track pairs effortlessly with the colour of the watch’s textile beige coloured strap, securing with a stainless steel fastening, whilst white Roman numeral hour markers add yet another colour into the mix. The reference M0A10696 fuses together tones of silver and green. The shimmering shade of the silver sun satin-finished dial pops against a deep green minute track and a set of crisp Roman numeral hour markers in black. Once again, the central hour and minute hands are leaf-shaped, whilst the central second hand is straight and narrow. The dial is complete with a date window at 3 o’clock, set against a white background for enhanced readability and the model is fitted on a green canvas strap that matches a beautiful green-coloured second hand.
Lastly, the M0A10691 stands out for its different dial design. Dressed in the same rich burgundy colour as the reference M0A10694, this model features delicate dot minute markers and stick hour markers in a rhodium-coated finish that combine with Roman numerals at the cardinal points around the dial. In addition to this, the display features a deep blue outer trim around the periphery and offers a date window at the usual position of 3 o’clock. This time, the watch is fitted on a stylish stainless steel bracelet that encloses against the wrist with a folding clasp stamped with the Baume & Mercier logo.
As well as a shared diameter of 42mm, all of the new Baume & Mercier Classima watches feature a sapphire crystal glass front that has been treated with a layer of anti-reflective material. They all offer a water resistance of 50 meters and house the same movement inside their robust stainless steel cases. All watches apart from the stainless steel model also feature minute tracks executed in a shade that matches their textile straps. The ETA 2892 is housed inside each model, capable of a performance of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 42 hours.
