Bell & Ross Reveals New BR 03-92 Diver White Bronze Watch
Thursday - 30 March 2023
When it comes to Bell & Ross dive watches, style is never off the cards. The brand marks the new chapter of its marine odyssey with the limited edition Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver White Bronze watch. And it’s beautiful.
Although the entire Bell & Ross catalogue comprises dive watches, GMT watches, pilot’s watches and integrated bracelet sports watches – the brand has whole-heartedly committed to keeping the faithful style of its cockpit instrument-inspired look close to untouched. The vast majority of its wristwatches feature the rounded square case concept – a square-shaped case with a rounded bezel and dial. The trademark silhouette of the BR 03-92 design has been intact since it debuted in 2017. The new member of the family to join the BR 03-92 diver range is the limited edition Diver White Bronze, offering a striking pearl white and bronze colourway that adds a daring and energetic twist to the collection. The dive watch is yet another example of Bell & Ross’ unwavering commitment to excelling in its quest to revolutionize the beauty of wearing a dive watch in the modern world.
The evolution of the Bell & Ross Dive watch
Since 1997, Bell & Ross has been contributing to the world of dive watches with the release of its Hydromax model – a dive tool that was water-resistant to depths of 11,100 meters underwater. To achieve this watertight construction, Bell & Ross experts had to fill the case with a transparent fluorinated oil. The BR 02 watch collection marked ten years since the release of this watch with a barrel-shaped case and came with a helium decompression valve to protect the internal environment of the watch when worn down to extreme underwater depths. In addition to this, the watch was fitted with a boxed sapphire crystal glass that was both anti-reflective and scratch resistant, protecting the dial from damage caused by scratching, denting, dust, light, heat and moisture. Both of these features were essential for those undertaking saturation diving, yet neither were square in shape until the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 watch came along in 2017. Twenty years on from the Maison’s first dive watch, the BR 03-92 was an instrument watch for both civilians and professionals, appealing to an even wide audience than before.
The BR 03-92 watches from Bell & Ross perfectly reinterpret the functionality of fighter plane dashboards, creating an instrument panel-inspired look and providing the time on a legible display. The first bronze Bell & Ross dive watch would be released the following year in 2018 with a 42mm by 42mm square-shaped case crafted from this distinctive material. As bronze watches do, the material chosen for the case develops its own patina but is also resistant to saltwater and incredibly robust, making it a well-used material for the marine world. The distinctive tint of bronze, thanks to its high copper content, is unique to each wearer, adding a feel of exclusivity when worn.
The BR 03-92 Diver White Bronze watch, therefore, is an appealing timepiece to own whether you have a love for the dive watch or whether you just love the idea of owning a watch that won’t look quite like anyone else’s. Its broad bronze case is afforded by a 42mm diameter and the back of the case is sealed with a piece of stainless steel upon which the iconic diver’s helmet logo is meticulously etched. The top of the case is sealed with a strong piece of scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass that protects the surface of an opaline white dial, showing a soft pearly hue that marries effortlessly with rose-gold plated elements. These golden highlights can be appreciated in the central hands and the hour track represented by a mix of circular and pill-shaped hour markers. These features have also been treated with a generous layer of Super-LumiNova for timekeeping in the dark. The 4:30 location is home to a discreet date window and the entire dial, with its alluring reflections of warm light, is framed by a brown anodised aluminium unidirectional rotating bezel.
The bezel of the new Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver White Bronze watch has a 60-minute scale executed in golden tones to match the elements in the dial. Designed to rotate in the counter-clockwise direction only, it eradicates the risk of mistakes in extending the dive time once underwater and is also simple to use under heavy diving gear. At the side of the case is a screw-down telescopic crown that upholds the case’s 300-meter water-resistant capability. The case construction is assembled in-house at Bell & Ross and features the instantly recognisable polished screws in the four corners of the case.
Inside the water-resistant and salt-water-resistant case of the new Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver White Bronze watch is a soft iron cage which protects the movement from damage caused by magnetic fields. The movement in question is, of course, the CAL 302, which performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a power reserve of 42 hours once fully wound. The watch is also limited to just 999 pieces worldwide and comes fitted on a stylish brown calfskin leather strap with an additional black woven rubber band.
