Rotary Watch Sponsors 13-14 Clipper Round The World Yacht Race
Thursday - 05 September 2013
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is the world's longest global ocean challenge. Each of the 12 yachts will visit 14 ports on six continents, and will feature the Rotary Aquaspeed logo on its mail sail and the transom.
The 17th annual Clipper Race began on 1st September 2013 in London, and is expected to finish in July 2014. Described as "the only event of its kind for people from all walks of life", the competitors represent more than 40 nationalities and include both amateur and professional sailors.
Natalia Shoutova and Nick Golding, two of the 675 crew members competing in the race, will take on the role of Rotary brand ambassadors. They will wear Rotary Aquaspeed watches, and blog about their experiences on the Rotary website.
"Excellent technical equipment gives me the confidence to aim higher and rise up to such challenges," Natalia Shoutova says. "Rotary Aquaspeed stands for performance, robustness and world class quality - so it would be an honour for me to represent the Rotary Aquaspeed Brand all around the world."
The race is divided into stages, with crews accumulating points in a scoring system similar to that of Formula 1. The yacht with the highest total at the finish will win the Clipper Trophy.
"Expertise will be tested to the max as crews encounter storm force winds, challenging seas, the relief of the trade winds, the tropical heat and ice cold conditions," the brand says. "They will have to overcome unpredictable and frustrating seas as they compete in a combination of long ocean races lasting several weeks, to short sprints which test technical ability."
