The new Pangaea watches from Meistersinger boast a superior design. The German watchmaker has accumulated over 34 design accolades over the years and its designers all appreciate the importance of a unique typeface and a touch of colour here and there. Meistersinger has worked with designer, Lukas Schneider who has customised many fonts for the brand in the past. In the design of the new Pangaea watch, white, gold and black numerals are picked out against contrasting dial shades, evoking the hand-painted numerals of vintage pocket watches. Every single-digit numeral around the hour track is accompanied by a “0” to balance out the dial in the faithful Pangaea way and all numerals except for the 12 o’clock are placed at an angle around the hour track. Without a doubt, all these subtle details contribute to the extra special “Meistersinger” touch that we have all come to know and love, yet there is something new to appreciate about the design of the Pangaea’s new 2023 dials..
“All the Earth” – the Pangaea watch family
The Pangaea name in Greek actually translates to “All the Earth” and is used to describe a time when all the Earth formed one large mass. It remains unclear why Meistersinger chose this name for the collection, but it certainly doesn’t distract from the beauty of these classic and simple-looking timepieces. If anything, an added touch of mystery further enhances the appeal of the range!
One thing all Pangaea watches share in common is an elegant typeface and a rounded 40mm stainless steel profile. The bezel of the Pangaea watch is incredibly slim, opening up the dial to create a simple and vast space to become at one with time. Meistersinger Pangaea watches are all fitted with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass front and echo the same material on the back of the case where a view of the movement and its performance can be properly admired. A large fluted or onion-shaped crown also facilitates an easy grip when wanting to power the movement or adjust the time.
A superior design
The unique single-handed dial design of the Meistersinger watch, surprisingly, enables you to consult the time to the nearest minute thanks to the precision of the tracks and the legibility of the details on the dial. What makes the design of the new Pangaea watches so unique, however, is the hour marker sticks that have been optically lengthened towards the middle of the dial. The Serif typeface on each of the new models sits inside a 40mm bezel that has been beautifully polished, allowing you to intuitively tell the time much quicker than you may initially think.
The new Pangea watches for 2023
The first of the Pangea watches we’ll discuss is the model reference PM9901G, which features a glossy white dial adorned with gold hour markers and blue and black indices that contrast beautifully with one another. The single hand is also executed in a crisp black hue, travelling over the Meistersinger name and logo effortlessly. The second reference is the PM9903 model, presenting the time on an ivory-coloured dial that looks almost eggshell in hue. Adding a sharp yet subtle injection of colour onto the surface of these dials are the light blue and red accents seen throughout the minute scale. This limited edition watch of just 200 pieces features the “Pangaea” lettering in a stylized font in the same hue, along with a black central hand and black numerals for the elongated indexes of the hour track. It also comes on a dark brown leather strap with a matching polished stainless steel pin buckle. The third and final reference is the model PM9908, which features a brown leather strap in the same shade as the white glossy version, yet this model showcases a deep entrancing blue sunburst dial that reflects angles of light off its surface, giving the watch a visual lightness. The blue dial has been decorated with white elements across its hour markers, hands and minute track, as well as the “Meistersinger” and “Pangaea” lettering.
All three of the new Pangaea watches from Meistersinger feature a domed anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass front that offers ample protection from scratching, denting, dust, light, heat and moisture damage, whilst on the back you can admire the mechanical performance of the Sellita SW300 movement via a mineral glass caseback. The Swiss-made movement provides a power reserve of 42 hours once fully wound and is protected inside a 50-meter water-resistant case.
