TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Elegant Collection Review
Wednesday - 16 September 2020
In celebration of their 160th anniversary, TAG Heuer have unveiled yet another addition to their iconic Carrera collection, this time a range of chronographs with an elegant design reminiscent of the original Carrera first released in 1963. The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Elegant collection features four new models each with their own refined, yet modern aesthetic inspired by the pure style that has long made the Carrera so iconic.
Earlier this year, TAG Heuer also welcomed a whole new collection of TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 watches with four core models featuring the brand’s new Heuer 02 manufacture movement. The Carrera, which has stood for the brand’s most recognisable and iconic reference, is firmly being backed by the manufacturer this year and rightly so in celebration of the brand’s birthday. Since the 60’s, the Carrera has been synonymous with sports elegance, inspired by the sophistication and adrenaline of motor racing with clean, easy to read dials and simple aesthetics that provides optimal legibility at high speeds and in all lighting conditions.
The new reinterpreted collection of TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Elegant watches currently features four models. Two showcase streamlined H-shaped stainless steel bracelets alongside a choice of an opaline black or sunray blue dial. The bracelets themselves have also been carefully redesigned with thinner profiles and more fluid links for optimal comfort. The third variation is bi-coloured with a silver-coloured dial, rose gold plated hands and a dark brown alligator strap. The last TAG Heuer Carrera Elegant Chronograph also features a brown leather strap paired with a deep anthracite dial. All variations include stunning azurage subsidiary dials and white Superluminova hands.
Maintaining the same DNA as the first TAG Heuer Carrera designed by Jack Heuer, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Elegant watches come with sleek 42mm stainless steel cases and fixed bezels. While many of the contemporary models within the collection are designed with tachymeter scales, the new variants have been purposely engineered without to keep the overall aesthetics in line with the original silver-dialled Career launched in 1963. The cases also come equipped with domed and bevelled sapphire crystal glass with double anti-reflective treatment, a polished standard crown at 3 o’clock and a stunning sapphire crystal case back which provides a fascinating view of the innovative movement inside, made even more exclusive by its rose gold coloured oscillating mass.
The Calibre Heuer 02 automatic winding movement makes another reappearance in the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Elegant models. The entirely Swiss made calibre comprises of 168 components including a column wheel and vertical clutch and boasts a healthy power reserve of 80 hours. The 33 jewelled mechanical movement also provides central hands for hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, a date window and small seconds at 6 o’clock, 30 minutes counter at 3 o’clock and 12 hours counter at 9 o’clock.
We have no doubt that the new TAG Heuer Carrera Elegant Chronograph will find a permanent place in the collection with a design that strikes the perfect balance between advanced watchmaking technology and the brand’s inspiring heritage. The entire range will retail at £4,395 and is expected to be released in October.
