Reviewing the Frederique Constant Classics Worldtimer Manufacture Native Edition
Wednesday - 13 July 2022
The new Frederique Constant Classics Worldtimer Manufacture Native Edition is exclusive to us here in the UK at Jura Watches, with two special timepieces allocated to our extensive online range of Frederique Constant watches.
The Classic Worldtimer Manufacture has been a Frederique Constant watch that has returned on stage several times since it first launched in 2012. Powered by an in-house developed movement, the iconic travel watch is now celebrating its 10th anniversary and follows on from the two Worldtimer Manufacture watches released earlier this year. The latest member of the family is named the Frederique Constant Classics Worldtimer Manufacture Native Edition and is considered the most innovative of designs with its stunning blue and silver colourways and 29 cities printed in 9 different languages around its city disc.
The poetic design of the Frederique Constant Classics Worldtimer Manufacture Native watch makes for an intriguing model to own, let alone its affordable price point for such a complication. Its city ring around the perimeter of the dial is perfect for reading time all over the world at a quick glance. Adorning this tenth-anniversary watch is a world map motif on a white and blue colourway, executed in relief, that evokes the oceans surrounding the map. If you’re into the classic execution of a Frederique Constant Worldtimer watch, you’ll no doubt want to wear this watch every day of the week and that’s more than possible since this new limited edition watch of just 100 pieces worldwide is crafted from robust stainless steel and measures a universally appealing size of 42mm.
As aforementioned, Frederique Constant celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Classic Worldtimer watch earlier in March with two limited edition timepieces; one crafted from 18ct rose gold and limited to 88 pieces and one stainless steel iteration, released in a limited production of 1,888 pieces. Both are worn on a navy-blue leather strap and a folding buckle.
Why the Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer?
If you strip the design of all Frederique Constant Classics Worldtimer Native Edition watches back, it’s easy to appreciate just what makes this travel companion such a desirable addition to any collection. For a start, the useful complication can be used to read the exact time in 24 different world cities. Alongside this, the complication also offers an immediate indication of exactly which cities are experiencing daytime or nighttime hours. Secondly, the watch is also incredibly easy to use. The in-house movement that has powered the many watches from this range has been in use for over 25 years and has more than proven its reliability. All of the functions of the worldtimer feature in the Frederique Constant Classics Worldtimer watch can be adjusted with a single crown, courtesy of a three-notch system. The first position of the crown winds the watch. The second position of the crown adjusts the date by moving upwards and the city by moving downwards. The third position of the crown adjusts the time on the main display.
With local time displayed on the main hands and home time around the flange, these two parallels are synchronised with one another, with a day and night indicator presented in two colours on the 24-hour ring around the globe. Half of the ring is represented in silver to show the daytime hours, whilst the other half is blue to represent nighttime hours. One other beautiful feature of the Frederique Constant Classics Worldtimer Manufacture Native watch is its stunning movement, put on show through the back of the case with its traditional Cotes de Geneve finishes on display.
Lastly, the design of the Classics Worldtimer Manufacture has barely changed over the course of its 10-year run (and counting). It’s a modern, timeless design enriched by a line of innovative dial colours that reflect the landscapes, oceans and coral reefs of the earth it represents. As one of Frederique Constant’s most successful and popular wristwatches of all time, it comes as no surprise that the brand wants to satisfy the needs of this exclusive following.
The Frederique Constant Classics Worldtimer Native Limited Edition watch
The Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer Manufacture Native Limited Edition watch is exclusive to just 100 pieces worldwide and just two pieces of this allocation have been granted to the UK. Jura Watches will proudly welcome these two timepieces into our already rich online collection of Frederique Constant watches. Paying tribute to collectors all over the globe, this new limited edition Wordltimer watch will display the city disc in nine different languages; English, Arabic, Urdu, Bengali, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and Brazilian.
The white-coloured backdrop of the dial represents the oceans of the central planisphere and is highlighted by crisp blue continents. Unfolding around the flange and surrounding a set of luminous-coated hands is the city ring accompanied by a date sub-dial at 6 o’clock, set against a fine sunray guilloche background and indicated by a deep blue hand. Pearl black applied indexes provide optimum contrast against the white and blue globe decoration. As seen in earlier Worldtimer watches from Frederique Constant, the daytime hours of the 24-hour ring are depictured in white whilst the other half, representing the night hours, are finished in a blue hue. Lastly, a polished, blue-coated central second hand adds a pop of additional colour to this unique display.
The new Frederique Constant Classics Worldtimer Native Limited Edition watch measures a diameter of 42mm and is crafted from polished stainless steel comprising a three-part case construction. An anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass pane is sealed to the top of the watch, which measures a depth of 12.10mm. If you turn the 50-meter water-resistant case over, you can catch a glimpse of the FC-718 in-house calibre, performing effortlessly inside the robust boundaries of the model’s steel case. This view is granted through a sapphire exhibition caseback, putting the movement’s perlage and circular Cotes de Geneve decoration on show. The movement also provides a 38-hour power reserve, comprises 28 jewels, and performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour.
To complete its classic and resolutely elegant look, the new limited edition Frederique Constant Classics Worldtimer Manufacture Native watch is fitted on a traditional-looking black alligator leather strap, enclosing comfortably against the wrist with a stainless steel buckle, decorated with Frederique Constant’s emblematic Manufacture seal.
