Dedicated to the unions and federations that make up the Six Nations Rugby Championships, Breitling is releasing a six-piece watch collection endowed with all the finest Chronomat characteristics. Meet the new Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations England Limited Edition watch, released in celebration of its role as the tournament’s Official Timing Partner
February 4th will mark the start of the Six Nations Rugby Championships 2023, showcasing exhilarating men’s and women’s matches between its six competing unions: RFU (England), IRFU (Ireland), WRU (Wales), SRU (Scotland), FFR (France), and FIR (Italy). A unique timepiece has been released to represent each of the six national teams – each one is also limited to just 150 pieces worldwide. With a history that stretches back over 150 years, the Six Nations Championships is the oldest international rugby tournament in the world that now goes by the name of the Guinness Six Nations Rugby Championships. After partnering with the Irish dry stout company, Guinness is now the Official Responsible Drinking Partner for the championships, helping to promote sensible and responsible drinking. The England limited edition version of the newly released six-part Breitling Chronomat Six Nations series is robust, practical and an all-around stylised sports watch, just like the collection it derives from. Breitling CEO Georges Kern explains; “As Breitling’s all-purpose, no-limits sports watch, the Chronomat Six Nations is the ideal match for the fast and fearless world of rugby”.
The key features of the new celebratory sports watch include raised rider tabs on the bezel at the 15-minute markers, an onion-shaped crown with an easy-grip design, legible chronograph counters at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock on the dial, an integrated date window at 6 o’clock and a distinctive Rouleaux bracelet crafted from matching stainless steel. All these features belong to the beloved Chronomat series yet where the difference lies in the new Six Nations England watch is in the small nods to the English rugby team, giving the timepiece an even stronger and sportier appeal.
The original Chronomat watch was developed by Breitling back in 1942 for the Frecce Tricolori, the famed Italian aerobatics squadron. Its tachymeter scale, featured in the new reimagined designs some years later attracted the attention of Formula 1 teams during the 1980s and 1990s but was revamped again in 2020. The line was again given a makeover two years later with the 2022 models featuring a GMT complication and a Super Chronomat design that came with a new diamond set bezel option. Most noticeably, the Breitling Chronomat watch was reintroduced back in 2020 with the famous Rouleaux bracelet – a delight for fans of the original 1980s Chronomat watches. The rounded links of the metal bracelet give the new Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations England Limited Edition watch a sporty-come-dressy feel that carries the unmissable Chronomat DNA beautifully.
Breitling’s seven-strong rugby squad
Representing the new range of Breitling Chronomat Six Nations Limited Edition watches is the company’s seven-strong rugby squad – a crew of notable players from the Six Nations Rugby union. The team includes Wales’ top scorer George North; from Ireland, three-time champion Conor Murray; from England, powerhouse prop Kyle Sinckler; from Italy, star fly-half Paolo Garbisi, who made his test debut in 2020; from France, Gaël Fickou, a 2022 Grand Slam winner; from Scotland, Hamish Watson, the 2021 Player of the Championship; and also from Scotland, Stuart Hogg, twice named the Championship’s top performer.
