Oris Big Crown PA Charles de Gaulle Limited Edition Watch Review
Thursday - 10 August 2017
Oris introduce the Big Crown PA Charles de Gaulle Limited Edition in collaboration with the officers of the French Navy’s flagship carrier. The Charles de Gaulle is the first nuclear-powered surface vessel with a flight deck that can hold a total of forty planes. Honouring the vessel, Oris present a highly legible pilot watch that pays tribute to the crew and the brands military roots.
Positioned at 6 o’clock, the ships emblem sits proudly on the matte black dial with the familiar mint green numerals; a subtle reference that compliments the iconic Big Crown design. Turn the watch to find the ship itself engraved on the case-back as a reminder of the influence and look to the fluted crown that proudly features the number of the vessel (R91). The curved second hand emulates the French flag at the tip to celebrate the nationality of the aircraft carrier in a sophisticated design detail.
Limited to 1890, the Oris Big Crown Charles de Gaulle Limited Edition highlights the year that the French president was born. The new release joins the signature Big Crown family that is such an important collection of the Oris brand. The 40mm stainless steel case with the distinctive fluted bezel circles the stunning dial that is extremely readable with luminous indices.
Fasten the charming timepiece with the beautiful brown leather strap with steel folding buckle. The retro aesthetic is very much inspired by the military aviation history yet appeals to the modern gent; the perfect balance of French heritage that is very relevant to the contemporary watch connoisseur.
