New: The Hamilton Jazzmaster Face-2-Face III Limited Edition
Monday - 30 January 2023
The third generation of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Face-2-Face watch comes in a more compact 44mm round stainless steel case. The rotating case design reveals chronograph and main timekeeping features on one side and a second dial offering a set of measuring scales on the other.
Sometimes a collectable wristwatch can peak too soon and before you know it, the fuss is all over before it even began. Not in the case of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Face-2-Face trilogy. The first model was released back in 2013 and since then, masters at Hamilton have been drip-feeding fans the next edition after a long and anticipated wait. That’s when you know a luxury watch brand is getting it spot on. When there’s a huge demand for something and the audience is sitting on tenterhooks. True Jazzmaster fans will all agree that there’s been much patience required in the anticipated arrival of the new Jazzmaster Face-2-Face III watch. The third model to distil the essence of the line with an unmistakable and unconventional design continues the saga with yet another double-faced model. This time it features a timekeeping side combined with chronograph functions, whilst the other side features measuring scales. The watch is completed on a brown patina-look leather strap adding a distinct retro twist to an otherwise very modern concept. That said, both dials of the new Hamilton Face-2-Face watch are incredibly classic looking. The watch’s swivelling case design looks different to other models from the Jazzmaster series and the model is also limited to just 999 pieces worldwide, further adding to its desirability.
The Jazzmaster Face-2-Face III is a very “out there” design and when it comes to off-the-wall watches, Hamilton is quite at home. It did, after all, release the unusual-looking Ventura watch back in 1957. Its shield-shaped design was a concept that no one had ever seen before, let alone envisioned on the wrist as a daily beater. But that’s not the only quirky watch design that Hamilton takes ownership of. The brand also released the Jazzmaster Regulator Cinema watch with a dial that featured rotating film reels. It seems, however, that the Jazzmaster Face-2-Face watch could perhaps be crowned as the most quirky of all. Take for example the first face2-Face watch to come onto the scene a whole decade ago. It was powered by two movements and featured a dressy three-handed dial on one side with a chronograph dial on the reverse. The Face-2-Face II Auto Chronograph released three years later featured a chronograph dial on one side with measuring scales on the other side. Both swivel cases are now discontinued but both featured a large oval-shaped case. The third generation is more compact with a rounded case that measures 44mm. Whichever way you look at it, swivel cases are rare in watchmaking, adding to the allure and desirability of the new Face-2-Face III watch even more.
The Hamilton Jazzmaster Face-2-Face watch revolutionised the watch-wearing scene back in 2013 and is still doing so now with this third iteration. The watch is still competitively priced and brings something functionally unique to the wrist. Its round 44mm rotating case is crafted from stainless steel and sits at a height of 17.25mm. Considering the previous models measured a remarkably large 53mm diameter, this new iteration is sure to wear more comfortably on the wrist and is guaranteed a water resistance of 50 meters. A mix of brushed and polished effects feature across the case, which features elongated chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock.
The new Face-2-Face watch by Hamilton is powered by the same movement used in the second generation and offers a useful 60-hour power reserve. The H-41 automatic chronograph calibre powers both sides of the watch including the chronograph second hand that runs counterclockwise on the back. Both dial designs of the new model are attractive and functional, with a silver minute track running around the periphery of the chronograph dial and a blue-filled 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock to match the blued central chronograph second hand and the 30-minute counter hand at 12 o’clock. The date ring is also exposed, displaying the current date in a window next to the day aperture at 3 o’clock. Other features include Super-LumiNova-coated hands and stick indexes around the hour track. Flip the new Hamilton Jazzmaster Face-2-Face watch around and you can make use of a blue pulsometer and a tachymeter in silver. The exhibition movement feature can also be admired through this side of the watch. The double-faced model is complete on a patina-look brown leather strap with blue contrast stitching down the edges and a stainless steel folding clasp.
