As part of their 20th anniversary celebrations, single-hand watch manufacturer Meistersinger have unveiled a remarkable selection of limited edition watches. We’ve already covered the Meistersinger Astroscope Limited Edition here which uniquely displays the days of the week through celestial bodies in our solar system and the Stratoscope Moon Phase watch with one of the world’s largest moonphase apertures at its centre. Now, Meistersinger are going back to basics with a new addition to their iconic Perigraph collection now dressed in a flamboyant yellow suit. Meet the MeisterSinger Perigraph Mellow Yellow Limited Edition.
Since 2001, Meistersinger watches have offered something to watch collectors that is rare to find anywhere else; high quality and unique instruments offering a more relaxed approach to timekeeping. The inspiration behind their designs comes from some of the world’s first timekeeping instruments like the sundial and hourglass which didn’t require a mass of complications like so many of today’s luxury watches but just a singular hand. How do you read a Meistersinger watch, we hear you ask? It’s really very simple. Each of the 144 markers around the dial represent five minute increments, so if the hand is pointed to the first marker after the 7, that would read 7:05. The second marker after 7 would be 7:10 and so on.
The Meistersinger Perigraph collection differs from the rest for its inclusion of an internal date ring which rotates freely in the centre of the dial and is marked by a small arrow at the 12 o’clock position. At exactly midnight, the ring will automatically adjust to show the new date. The MeisterSinger Perigraph Mellow Yellow Limited Edition delivers this very same aesthetic but in a new, vivid colour combination including a bumble-bee yellow dial with navy blue and red accents. As a special edition piece designed in honour of their 20th anniversary, the MeisterSinger Perigraph Mellow Yellow will be limited to only 200 pieces.
Let’s take a look at the dial a little closer. As you can see, the centrepiece shade of yellow is incorporated on the minutes track and date disc which contrasts fantastically against the white Arabic numerals, large white hour hand and white lettering on the Meistersinger logo and Perigraph calligraphy. Also in contrast is the steel-blue base and a sprinkling of red accents found on the hour hand and arrow pointing to the date. The combination of colours is truly spectacular, you almost can’t take your eyes away from it. The dial of the MeisterSinger Perigraph Mellow Yellow Limited Edition is then paired with a bright yellow suede leather strap complete with white stitching and an elegant stainless steel pin buckle.
Meistersinger have manufactured a number of modules and proprietary movements in their history such as the MSH01 calibre in 2016 seen in much of their Circularis collection. Sadly, we aren’t treated to one of these today; instead, the new MeisterSinger Perigraph Mellow Yellow relies on the trusty Swiss Sellita SW 200-1 automatic movement. It powers the central hand for hours and minutes and the internal date ring while conveying a frequency of 28,800 vibration per hour and a decent power reserve of 38 hours. Through the exhibition case back, you can witness some of the classic finishes of the movement alongside the timelessly striped Cotes de Geneve decorated rotor.
Like with its movement, the MeisterSinger Perigraph Mellow Yellow Limited Edition follows in the footsteps of previous Perigraph models with a 43 millimetre case size engineered from polished stainless steel. On the right hand side, the case is equipped with a large, knurled crown and on top, domed scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass ensures easy legibility of the dial beneath with its anti-reflective coating. The MeisterSinger Perigraph Mellow Yellow watch also comes in at 11 millimetres in height and guarantees a reasonable water resistant rating of 50 metres.
