Meet the new Nomos Ahoi Atlantik Watch Collection
Friday - 29 July 2022
Three new nautical-inspired three-handed Nomos Ahoi Atlantik watches have arrived for 2022, with deep enticing blue dials and a size of 36mm and 40mm to choose from
The Nomos Ahoi Atlantik has been enjoyed as a “where anywhere” kind of watch since it first launched in 2013. The collection saw some modifications the year after and another expansion in the year 2017 to accommodate the Aqua series in a smaller size but with a Neomatik movement equipped to its heart. You can do pretty much anything with the Nomos Ahoi watch strapped to your wrist and let’s face it, if you’re looking for an alternative to a Swiss-Made watch, there’s no better place to start your search than within the location of Glashutte – Germany’s watchmaking nerve centre. As far as German luxury watches go, you can’t get much better value than a Nomos watch. It’s one of our favourite German watch brands here at Jura Watches and this latest release has got both us and our dedicated Nomos collectors buzzing with excitement.
Known for its 200-meter water resistance and impressively clean aesthetics, the Nomos Ahoi watch collection spreads its roots further with this new Nomos Ahoi Atlantik watch for 2022. It belongs to a line of updates that have been released in conjunction with this new deep blue dial version, including the Nomos Ahoi Datum Atlantik and the Ahoi Neomatik Atlantik. Deeper and less grey than previous models, the Nomos Ahoi Atlantik watch takes its name after the colour of its captivating deep blue dial and is quite the collector’s piece. The model comes in three different versions: the reference 557 with a 40mm diameter and no date function, the reference: 558, a 40mm model with a date function, and reference: 567 with a 46mm diameter with no date function. All three versions are three-hand novelties with a small second sub-dial and a vibrant red hand at 6 o’clock that adds a pop of colour to the entrancing deep blue tones of the display. Interestingly, however, all three versions make use of three different movements. But a little more on that shortly.
To put it simply, the Nomos Ahoi Atlantik watch is an all-rounder that encompasses the many signature style elements of the Saxon brand but with a thick layer of added robustness and practicality added to its design. For example, it shares the same flat, cylindrical profile with the popular Tangente watch, along with similarly styled lugs. There are also plenty of opportunities to enjoy these three new Nomos Ahoi Atlantik watches down at the beach since they offer impressive water resistance, as well as a screw-down crown with a lateral guard inserted into its design to reinforce its strength. The more saturated blue dial of these newer versions makes reading the time easier, whilst at the same time contrasting with the high polish of the case. Light green in colour and outlined in green also are the rectangular hour markers around the hour track. These also illuminate in green when the watch succumbs to dark conditions. The other details on the dial are crisp and executed in white, such as the Nomos Glashutte lettering standing proudly at 12 o’clock in each of the three new models. Not only the hour markers, but the baton indexes and Arabic numerals also glow richly in the dark. Make no mistake these newly designed models are incredibly easy to read in low light conditions.
The back of these new Nomos Ahoi Atlantik watches is screwed down with a total of 6 visible screws and features a sapphire exhibition caseback to admire an in-house movement performing within. The models are also fitted with a deep blue water-resistant woven textile strap. The band secures with a stainless steel buckle but other strap options can also be swapped over using Nomos’ quick-release spring bars. Both of the 40mm versions – one with a date - the other without one - are powered by the DUW-5001 (no date) and the DUW-5101 (with date). Both have been equipped with the brand’s patented Swing System and offer a power reserve of 42 hours. Blued screws and gold-coloured engravings can all be admired through the back of these three new models, along with thin ribbings and traditional finishing touches. The smaller 36mm version of the new Ahoi Atlantik watch for 2022 is powered by the Neomatik calibre with an integrated Swing System with a 43-hour power reserve. Beautiful decoration is once again put on display here, making the back of the watch just as stunning as the front. The case that supports and protects this movement, measures a height of 9.6mm, making for the perfect housing for this thin and compact movement.
The nautical-inspired design of the new 40mm and 36mm Nomos Ahoi Atlantik watches is an incredibly robust and resistant companion for every kind of eventuality. These new colours and new case design are certainly fresher and more attractive to look at.
