Friday - 24 February 2023
The new Tangente Neomatik Blue Gold watch from Nomos Glashutte is a perfected recipe of minimalist Bauhaus-inspired elements, curved lines and a clean, slim profile – all finished off with a shimmering light-refracting midnight blue dial colour.
The humble three-hander has always been a long-standing go-to timepiece for every eventuality. That will never change. And if there is one brand associated with creating some of the most elegant three-handed dress watches in history, it’s Nomos. Last year, Nomos released a platinum version of the Tangente in a Neomatik version. Whether with or without a date feature, the Neomatik in the title of a Nomos watch refers to one of two automatic calibres made entirely in-house at the company’s Glashutte-based watchmaking facilities. These sabre-thin movements keep great time and can either be displayed behind a transparent or solid caseback. The new Nomos Tangente Neomatik Blue Gold watch is the latest arrival to join the family. It boasts a captivating shimmering deep blue dial and comes in two sizes; a 35mm diameter and a 38.5mm diameter.
A little about Nomos
Nomos was founded in 1990 by a gentleman named Roland Schwertner. The brand has always been associated with its elegant, finely crafted dress watches and over the years has become the largest German watch manufacturer of mechanical timepieces, amassing to 160 prestigious awards. The Tangente was the first wristwatch to be released by Nomos and, due to its timeless styling, has remained as relevant as ever. The flagship favourite has come in many forms and colours, including a grey platinum model released just last year. Now, revisiting one of its favourite colours, Nomos is releasing a new minimalist Tangente watch, equipped with an in-house mechanical movement that still communicates the brand’s relentless attention to detail and fine watchmaking prowess.

The model has a perfectly circular case crafted from polished stainless steel and a set of thin, angular lugs that effortlessly blend organic forms with sharp lines. The model will look the part when finished on several strap options, hence the presence of the watch’s external lug holes.
The alluring shimmer of the new blue Nomos Tangente Neomatik watch is achieved via a sunburst effect. The dial is first gold-plated before being galvanised. The technique behind this dial is carried out in the same way as the platinum grey model released last year. If you wanted to take a look at this version, you can check it out at Jura Watches here. The dial is home to the familiar Arabic numerals in the Tangente typography, with a small seconds sub-dial located at 6 o’clock. The minute scale around the edge of the dial encircles the alternating Arabic numerals and stick markers, whilst at the centre of the dial, a set of straight hands are plated and rhodium coated for a luxurious finish. The top of the case is fitted with a piece of sapphire crystal glass that has been treated with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. Then, of course, there is the stunning golden “neomatik” lettering residing at the top of the dial, referring to the beautifully engineered beating heart at the centre of the case.
The new Nomos Tangente watch for 2023 is powered by the Calibre DUW 3001 movement, which provides a power reserve of 43 hours once fully wound. The full-rotor movement measures a mere thickness of 3.2mm in height, constituting a case with a considerably sleek profile on the wrist. The movement is manufactured fully in-house – a process that has been followed since 2015 when Nomos became a fully-fledged movement manufacturer. It features the brand’s in-house Swing System escapement with a tempered blue balance spring and a balance bridge that is fixed by screws. It also features a Nomos three-quarter plate construction and has been regulated in six positions so that it falls within chronometer standards.
