Introducing the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Golden Heritage Running Change
Thursday - 13 May 2021
Bell & Ross extends its BR 03-92 Golden Heritage line with a 42mm “circle within a square” instrument watch, equipped with a legible black pilot-inspired dial and brown calf leather strap – meet the new Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Golden Heritage Running Change watch
The Bell & Ross BR 03 watch has a distinctive design that you could pick out from across the room. The Swiss watchmaker, after all, has a rich heritage in creating military-inspired pilot and dive watches – no model being more recognisable than the BR 03-92 series. When Bell & Ross released the Golden Heritage BR 03 collection back in 2013 at Basel, it incorporated the iconic “circle within a square” concept, infused with all the vintage charm you could ever expect. The instrument-inspired watch was square in shape but featured a circular dial that mirrored the instrument panel found inside the cockpit – a distinguishable display that has also played a dominant role within the company’s catalogue ever since, particularly in the brand’s BR 03-92 dive watch range. Just this year alone we have seen Bell & Ross release the BR 03-92 Diver Red Bronze Limited Edition watch, with a corrosion-resistant bronze case that develops its own patina with age, a screw-down crown, legible deep red dial, unidirectional rotating bezel and water resistance of 300 meters.
New for the Bell & Ross Golden Heritage Running Change watch collection specifically, however, is a sturdy steel on leather model that once again pays homage to the company’s successful role in developing tool watches fit for the skies and the boardroom. The new model features a black sunray dial and brown leather band combo that swaps some of the BR 03 watch’s military-infused design codes for a more classic and dressy feel on the wrist. Within the Bell & Ross Golden Heritage was series are simple three-handed variations and chronograph versions – the BR 03-92 and BR 03-94 respectively. This new member that goes by the reference: BR0392-GH-ST/SCA is the three-handed type and comes in its preferred and very manageable 42mm case size. One interesting fact to note about Bell & Ross watches in the BR 03-92 series is that the “92” in the watch’s title used to refer to the movement that lay within – the ETA 2892, which powered most of the earlier models. The Golden Heritage versions like this model ref: BR0392-GH-ST/SCA, however, are powered by the Bell & Ross CAL 302, based on the architecture of the SW300-1, but a little more on that in a moment. The “golden” part of the name refers to the gold-plated hands and markers of the dials within this range, as seen here in this new iteration.
The new Bell & Ross Golden Heritage Running Change watch features an intense black dial that imparts an assertive pilot-friendly aesthetic on the wrist. The dial is accented by golden-coloured minute markers and an hour track represented in Arabic numerals and indexes. As well as the hour hands having been coated with a generous layer of luminous material to assist with timekeeping during the night, the central hour and minute hands have too. The BR 03-92 lettering features above the 6 o’clock location, accompanied by a circular date aperture that resides between the fourth and fifth hour marker. The Arabic numeral hour markers at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock locations are oversized for maximum impact and the dial is also emblazoned with the Bell & Ross logo below the twelfth hour.
The construction of the case of this Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Golden Heritage Running Change watch is designed with much care and consideration. Those who have collected the brand’s instrument watches for some time will already be aware that a lot of attention is paid to the thickness of the materials used in each watch, as well as the careful assembly of the screws, the thick lugs, strong sapphire crystal glass panels and shock-resistant housing around the movement itself. The stainless steel case of this Bell & Ross Golden Heritage watch is executed in a mix of satin-brushed and polished surfaces and promises a water resistance of 100 meters.
Inside the case of the Golden Heritage Running Change was is, as mentioned earlier, the CAL 302 movement, which provides a power reserve of 38 hours once fully wound. It also performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour behind a closed stainless steel caseback and features a total of 25 jewels. To complete the vintage-infused look of the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Golden Heritage Running Change watch, a brown calfskin strap secures closely to the wrist, adorned with off-white contrast stitching running down the edging and fastening with a satin-finished and polished stainless steel pin buckle.
