Hands-on with the Longines Master Collection 190th Anniversary Gold Limited Editions
Friday - 16 September 2022
Longines has released an 18ct rose gold and 18ct yellow gold limited edition version of the new Master Collection 190th Anniversary watch to mark nearly two centuries in luxury Swiss watch manufacture. The Saint Imier brand has produced these two elegant dress watches in a limited supply of just 190 pieces each to pay homage to its storied history in fine watchmaking.
From the brand’s first pilot’s watches that accompanied pioneers of the sky such as Charles A. Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart, to classic chronographs, equestrian-inspired timepieces and watches that signify successful partnerships with bodies in the sporting industry, Longines has accomplished quite a lot in its 190 years of watchmaking. The prestigious company sits alongside some of the oldest names in the industry and was founded in 1832. To mark such a significant milestone, Longines has released the new Master Collection 190th Anniversary wristwatches. They come in three different variations, a stainless steel model that will become part of the brand’s current collection and two limited edition models – both of which are exclusive to just 190 timepieces worldwide. The limited edition watches are crafted from 18ct rose gold or 18ct yellow gold and are set to be popular collectables for dedicated Longines enthusiasts.
Longines has dedicated the past two centuries to perfecting the art of manufacturing elegant luxury wristwatches for men and women. The Saint Imier-based company is known for its endless range of timeless dress watches to suit all occasions and its long line of classically-inspired timepieces for marking special milestones in life. Expert watchmakers at Longines capture the heritage of the brand in each new release, articulating the dedication and meticulous attention to detail required throughout the entire watchmaking process. The functionality and precision of each Longines watch are symbolised by the winged hourglass logo which sits upon the dial surface of each timepiece alongside the famous Longines lettering itself. In the design of the new Longines Master Collection 190th Anniversary Limited Edition watch, the brand logo and emblem are positioned upon beautifully grained anthracite or brushed grey dial effects. In releasing these limited edition 190th anniversary timepieces, Longines celebrates its large network of ambassadors acquired along the way, together with its dedication to upholding values of precision, performance and functionality.
The new Longines Master Collection 190th Anniversary rose and yellow gold limited edition watches
Both the 18ct rose gold and 18ct yellow gold versions of the new Longines Master Collection 190th Anniversary watch measure a 40mm diameter and a height of 9.35mm, just like their steel counterpart, which will become part of the brand’s current catalogue. Longines often revives its popular yesteryear timepieces with contemporary touches and integrates them with new technology as it grows and evolves, and the same remains true for these new models. These elegant dress watches boast a subtle vintage-inspired edge but more importantly, a simplicity that communicates the brand’s effortless approach to classic watchmaking since 1832. Both versions forego the addition of a date feature and instead boast hands and Arabic numerals in contrasting tones against their beautiful dial colours. The rose gold version features elegant pink hands set against a grained anthracite surface, whilst the 18ct yellow gold version presents the time via gilt hands against a brushed grey dial. Delicately engraved Arabic numerals match these finishes, highlighting a sense of opulence and refinement.
Ticking away deep in the centre of each of these two new gold Longines Master Collection watches is the tried and tested Calibre L888.5. The self-winding movement performs at a rate of 25,200 vibrations per hour and delivers a power reserve of 72 hours. The movement also showcases a silicon balance spring and has been finished with a Cotes de Geneve rotor and perlage-decorated mainplate. Both the rose and yellow gold iterations come fitted on a black alligator leather strap with traditional buckles to match their respective case materials.
