Wednesday - 10 June 2020
At the top of Garmin’s extensive hierarchy of products is their Fenix 6 series and on top of that is the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro which offers additional features on top of an already fully-equipped sports and outdoors smartwatch. From the wrist based heart rate monitor to the dynamic Pace Pro feature to the remarkable two week battery life, let’s take a look at the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro in more detail to find out why this high-end wearable has become such a must-have in the tech world.
Before we get started, one question we are sure many of you have is what is the difference between the standard Garmin Fenix 6 and the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro? Simply put, the Fenix 6 Pro comes with all the very same features as the standard model but just with additional music, Wi-Fi and map capability. This includes music storage for up to 2,000 songs and access to play and control watch music, trendline popularity routing, round-trip course creator, cycle maps and preloaded golf and ski maps. The Garmin Fenix 6 Pro can also be connected to Wi-Fi while the standard Fenix 6 relies on Bluetooth and ANT+ alone.
The Garmin Fenix 6 Pro collection is just as recognisable as you’d expect, featuring a familiar yet durable case crafted from fibre reinforced polymer, stainless steel, DLC coated steel or titanium. The cases are available in three sizes: 42mm (Fenix 6S), 47mm (Fenix 6) and 51mm (Fenix 6X), are water resistant to 100 metres and come fitted with a selection of straps varying from silicon to titanium, nylon to leather. Each smartwatch comes with Corning Gorilla glass as standard, but you can also purchase the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro Sapphire which upgrades the screen to include more scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass.
The battery life of the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro will be a huge selling point for anyone who tends to go off-grid for several weeks at a time or just generally forgets to charge their watch! Each model differs in battery life slightly, but the standard Garmin Fenix 6 Pro boasts a battery life of up to 48 days in battery saver mode, 28 days in expedition GPS mode and up to 14 days in standard smartwatch mode. If you are using GPS, it will last up to 36 hours and if you are using GPS and music you can expect it to last up to 10 hours.
For fitness fanatics, the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro offers a remarkable selection of preloaded activity profiles for trail running, swimming, running, biking, hiking rowing, skiing, golfing and much more while the animated workouts feature gives you access to animated cardio, strength, yoga and Pilates workouts that you can view straight on the watch screen. The wrist based heart rate monitor will help you keep track of your pulse and monitor calories burned, floors climbed and more. One of the Garmin Fenix 6’s most innovative features, a feature we had yet to see before, is the Pace Pro technology. This handy app helps you keep on pace, whether you’re running, cycling or swimming and gives you an idea of how fast you need to work to make time.
For outdoor adventurers, the ClimbPro feature will become a must-have providing you with an ascent planner and downloaded courses to show you real-time information on your current and upcoming climbs including gradient, distance and elevation gain. Meanwhile the multi-GNSS support which includes GPS, GLONASS and Galileo will make sure you never get lost and give you access to more of the world than ever before. The classic ABC sensors remain in place as expected which include altimeter for elevation data, barometer to monitor weather and a three-axis electronic compass.
As you’d expect, the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro smartwatch keeps you prepped and ready for any social occasion by including smart notifications so you can receive any incoming texts, emails and alerts straight to your wrist when compared with a compatible smartphone. The iconic Garmin Pay feature is also included which allows you to make contactless payments at checkout by simply swiping the watch across a contactless card reader.
The popularity of the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro has already proven its position as one of the brand’s greatest smartwatch releases to date, but until you get wear one yourself, you’ll never fully appreciate how remarkable these devices truly are!
