DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung Limited Edition Watch Unveiled
Tuesday - 28 April 2020
Even after more than 130 years of watchmaking tradition, DOXA proves they can still break new ground with the extraordinary launch of the DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung watch. The limited edition of 300 pieces boasts a prestigious COSC certified movement and marks the first SUB 300 to come in high-tech forged carbon. Its striking aesthetic has also been designed to revive a historic partnership between two legendary brands: Doxa and Aqua Lung.
The DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung Limited Edition builds a bridge between the past and the future, reconnecting with Aqua Lung, a brand that embraced the SUB concept in its early days. The history of DOXA and their remarkable SUB concept is one we could talk about forever, but in short, in 1967 the brand decided it was time for the first truly purpose designed divers watch accessible to both professional and amateur divers. This idea was home to some radical innovations that completely changed to the benchmark for professional diving standards with a 300 metre water resistant case and a patented rotating bezel that allowed the diver to calculate and monitor no-decompression dive times based on the official US dive tables.
Meanwhile, Jacques-Yves Cousteau co-invented the Aqua Lung underwater breathtaking system and became renowned as the father of modern scuba diving. Having witnessed the creation of the DOXA Sub first-hand, he secured an exclusive distribution agreement for his company US Divers. This agreement started the affair between DOXA and Aqua Lung with all watches sold through US Divers featuring the Aqua Lung logo and the iconic ‘dive tank and regulator’ on the dial. During the design and development of the first series, a small batch of SUB 300 models showcased an Aqua Lung logo in black and yellow – subsequently nicknamed “Black Lung”. Since only a few of these units from the batch made it to market, they are among the most coveted pieces for DOXA collectors around the world. The new DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung Limited Edition honours the original with a similar black and yellow design.
Retaining all the hallmark features of the legend, the new DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung Limited Edition watch boasts a pressure resistant titanium chamber and a screw down crown to ensure an unwavering water resistant rating of 300 metres. Sapphire crystal glass treated with anti-reflective treatment echoes the domed plexiglass of its predecessors but with improved legibility and scratch resistance. The divers watch also ensures freedom for underwater exploration with the famous patented unidirectional rotating bezel for calculating and monitoring no-decompression dive times. The inserts of the diving scale are defined by white Superluminova markings, a white dot at 12H and yellow accents for depth indications in feet for easy identification.
With its diameter of 42.5 mm, the DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung is the first of its kind to be engineered from forged carbon, an advanced and stylistic material renowned for its lightweight feel and durability. The unique construction of carbon fibre gives the watch an urban-camouflaged finish to pair with the sporty black rubber strap and black PVD treated folding clasp featuring the exclusive DOXA fish symbol. Like the case, the dial is also crafted from black carbon and offers a stealthy aesthetic with black contrasts and subtle accents of white and yellow. This DOXA Sub 300 Limited Edition continues to make history as it becomes the first DOXA to employ a bright yellow minute hand for effortless readability.
Each 300 piece limited edition DOXA SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung watch will also showcase an official COSC certified chronometer automatic movement. Ensuring an accuracy of -4 to +6 seconds a day, the ETA 2824-2 calibre provides 28,800vph, hours, minutes, seconds and date function and a power reserve of 42 hours. The functions are perfectly displayed on the carbon black dial by Superluminova inserts, hands and a painted minute track for exceptional legibility even in the darkness of our deep oceans.
Jan Edöcs, CEO of DOXA Watches, comments: “DOXA has been experiencing an unprecedented revival over the past 12 months. The brand's unique history, the quality of our watches and our ability today to innovate and project ourselves into the future while staying true to our DNA are the key ingredients of a strategy that remains faithful to the principle established in 1889 by Georges Ducommun: to design and produce watches of high technical quality that are reliable and affordable. We are very proud of our heritage, and particularly happy to experience a success today, the fruit of passionate work. In presenting the SUB 300 Carbon Aqua Lung US Divers, I am delighted to announce that we have formalized our partnership with Aqua Lung, with whom we share a long history and the same values: innovation, quality and customer service. With this collaboration, we again have a perfect combination of the world of diving with that of technical and reliable watchmaking.”
