The Certina DS Concept turns 60! To honour the six decades since the initial release, Certina launch the DS-1 Big Date Powermatic 80 Special Edition. The sporty yet elegant timepiece is pretty difficult to resist!
At first glance the intense green tones capture everyone’s attention. Certina use a ‘fade’ effect and sunray finish to enhance the beautiful shade providing a depth to the rounded, retro dial. The design team certainly know what they are doing creating a deep green hue that adds an extra special touch to the watch face that is inspired by timepieces of the sixties. Complimenting the striking hue are finely faceted wedge-shaped indices and razor sharp hands that ensure legibility on the wrist.
At 6 o’clock, the dial boasts a big date, also recognised as a panorama date. The digits are presented in a large window to offer a prominent design feature that is easy to read at a glance, finishing the design perfectly.
Going the extra mile, the power reserve of the Powermatic 80 calibre reaches up to 80 hours, approximately double the time a typical mechanical watch would run for when fully wound. That’s three days that the special edition watch can keep on ticking off the wrist however, we’re not sure anyone would want to be without it for that long.
Not only will the power reserve impress but the Powermatic calibre that beats at the very heart of the new release features a new balance spring made of Nivachron, which is a innovative material that is able to increase resistance to magnetic fields. Proudly wearing the Swiss Made title, the balance spring has a titanium base, which is extremely resistant to temperature variations and shocks.
