Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition Review

It’s been 60 years since the first Jaguar E-Type sports car was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961 and in celebration of its historic unveiling, Jaguar Classic has combined forces with British watch manufacturer Bremont to deliver a unique Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition set. Alongside one of two different limited edition Bremont watches, the set will include Bremont’s first ever rally timer and a one-of-a-kind E-Type driving experience hosted by Jaguar Classic.

With shared incentives for precision, performance and beauty, Bremont and Jaguar have held a partnership since 2010 marked by the release of Bremont’s exclusive analogue dashboard clock designed in celebration of the Jaguar C-X75. Over the years, Bremont’s portfolio of Jaguar watches has increased tenfold with a variety of MKI and MKII models and a stunning limited edition Bremont D-Type watch. Meanwhile, the new Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition delivers two special designs dressed in the same colours as the original 9600 HP Coupe and 77 RW Roadster E-Type’s unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961. These two legendary cars completely stole the show with their 265 brake horsepower, 3.8 litre engines and top speed of over 150 mph. Attired in the colours of  “Flat Out Grey” and “Drop Everything Green”, these cars remain the inspiration for the new Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary set.

CASE

Measuring to 42mm in diameter and 16.4mm in width, the Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition has been engineered using the brand’s famous Trip Tick case construction from polished stainless steel with a scratch resistant DLC treated case barrel and a 200 metre water resistant rating. Centre stage to the design is a bi-directional rotating aluminium bezel which is coloured in either “Flat Out Grey” or “Drop Everything Green” in commemoration of the two original Jaguar E-Type cars from 1961. The bezels are adorned with a handsome racing inspired tachymeter scales and a luminous indicator at 12 o’clock.

Continuing the celebrations, each Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary watch is fitted with two screw down chronograph pushers and a stunning screw down winding crown which has been beautifully detailed with the pattern of a Dunlop racing tyre. This pattern is not only historically accurate to the year the E-Type was launched, but it is exact to the very tyres fitted to the supercars on the day of its release. The case is completed by domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on the front and matching flat sapphire glass on the 5 screws case back.

MOVEMENT

Just like the case of each Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition, the movement brings to life the car that inspires it with a special oscillating rotor that has been engineered into the shape of an alloy-spoked E-type steering wheel. This subtle emblem is put on full display through the sapphire crystal case back and forms part of the BE-50AE automatic winding movement. The modified calibre based on the trusty ETA 7750 provides 25 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 38 hours. On the dial front, the movement presents central hands for hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock, 30 minutes counter at 3 o’clock and a date window at 6 o’clock.

DIAL

A classic black metal dial is mirrored on both Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition watches inspired by the E-Types’s instrument gauges. Around the circumference, white Arabic numerals signify hours while a railway minute track travels from 8 o’clock to 4 o’clock to reflect the same outline of the gauges on the Jaguar’s dashboard. The Superluminova coated hands for hours and minutes have also been purposely chamfered to evoke the car’s tachometer needle and the small seconds dial at 9 o’clock includes the familiar red detail of an E-Type’s speedometer.

STRAP

Like with their bezels, each Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary watch differs in their strap colour available in green like the Drop Everything Green ‘77RW’ roadster or grey like the Flat Out Grey ‘9600 HP’. The straps are also detailed with white stitching, porthole accents and a brushed stainless steel pin buckle with a highly polished bevel and the signature Bremont logo engraving.

RALLY TIMER

For the first time, Bremont have designed their own rally timer which will come delivered with every Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition. The timer features two mechanical instruments which can be displayed on a desktop stand or fitted into a customer’s car. On the left side is a stopwatch with a 30 second counter at 6 o’clock, a central red hand for chronograph seconds and a central white hand for split chronograph seconds. On the right hand side, the Bremont Jaguar E-Type rally timer delivers a classic watch face with central hands for hours and minutes, a small seconds dial at 6 o’clock and a rotating bezel.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

Also included with every sale of the Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary watch is a unique driving experience. This one in a lifetime opportunity will see 120 customers take the wheel of three different Jaguar E-Type cars at Jaguar’s exclusive Fen End facility. Some of the cars available include the original 1961 E-Type roadster, a Coombs car, the E-Type Reborn fixed head or the E-Type V12 Commemorative Edition roadster.
