Breitling releases two limited edition timepieces from the Chronomat line that celebrate Giannis Antetokounmpo and his love of basketball and watchmaking.

When securing a win for his team, Giannis Antetokounmpo digs deep to produce some iconic finishing moves in the air. His defensive instincts and agility are nothing short of inspiring for a man of his size. From the streets of Athens to his success as an NBA player, the athlete certainly has unwavering drive and focus. But basketball is not his only pleasure in life. The 29-year-old Greek-Nigerian professional basketball player who plays for Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA), has a fondness for luxury timepieces – Breitling watches, to be more precise. The new limited edition Giannis Antetokounmpo Chronomat watches capture the unstoppable energy and the inspiring journey of one of America’s most inspiring basketball players. The green colourways of these new timepieces have been chosen by the athlete himself and bear some subtle yet distinctive nods to his profession. One of the models is a GMT complication crafted from stainless steel. The other is an 18ct rose gold chronograph available on a matching bracelet or a rubber band.

The first of the two models we’re going to look at is the Breitling Chronomat Automatic GMT Giannis Antetokounmpo iteration. The model is limited to 1750 pieces worldwide and has been crafted from stainless steel, with the iconic rider tabs featuring at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock in the distinctive Chronomat bezel. Each one signifies a 15-minute interval but also serves a practical and functional purpose, aiding the wearer’s grip of the bezel and protecting the sapphire crystal glass from any unforeseen impact. The 40mm model is incredibly compact and perfect for travel.

Aligned with the athlete’s requirements in a luxury timepiece, this new GMT Chronomat is ideal for assisting Antetokounmpo while hopping from one state to another. Also aiding with a busy training programme, the watch has a legible dial presented in a stunning green shade that the player picked out himself. The central hour and minute hands, which can be used to keep track of local time or home time (depending on your preference) have been treated with Super-LumiNova material for easy readability in the night. They accompany a set of luminous-coated baton hour markers and a striking yellow gold GMT hand with a distinctive arrow-shaped tip. These features, including the date window at 6 o’clock, dressed against a white wheel, are protected underneath a strong scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass front.

The caseback is engraved with the lettering “X of 1750” and the integrated bracelet features the iconic “rolls” that define the popular Rouleaux bracelet that Breitling produced exclusively for the Chronomat watch collection. The strap secures with a stainless steel fastening that bears the watchmaker’s logo engraved upon its surface. Inside the watch is the Breitling 32 Calibre, which beats to the rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour and features in the Superocean GMT, the Colt GMT, and the Avenger GMT.

The New Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Giannis Antetokounmpo

The new Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Giannis Antetokounmpo benefits from the in-house Manufacture B01 movement, which affords a power reserve of 70 hours once fully wound and promises COSC-certified accuracy. The movement is put on show through an open caseback that showcases the movement’s traditional decoration and a rose gold rotor that swings effortlessly backwards and forwards. This watch measures a larger 42mm compared to the smaller 40mm GMT and is crafted from alluring 18ct rose gold. Ideal for controlling stopwatch timings when on the go, the stopwatch counters present themselves in black, set against the same Antetokounmpo-approved green dial.

As with all chronograph models from the Chronomat collection, the watch features a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour totaliser at 6 o’clock and a running seconds at 9H. The latter, however, is decorated like a basketball. These features accompany luminous hour markers and hands, together with a stunning GA counterweight monogram on the base of the central chronograph second hand. These letters represent Antetokounmpo’s initials and further add to the exclusivity of this design.

In this design, you have a choice to make between a matching 18ct rose gold Rouleaux bracelet or a dark green rubber band, fashioned in the Rouleaux way. Whether you opt for the sporty rubber model or the timepiece on the dressier rose gold bracelet, both versions are limited to the 250-piece allocation worldwide and come displayed inside a special edition box with a note from Giannis.
