The Longines Hong Kong International Races will take place at Sha Tin Racecourse on 9th December 2012, providing an exciting climax to the horse racing year. Attracting some of the best jockeys and horses, it is one of the world's most lucrative horse racing events with a total prize money over HK$72 million. The brand will also sponsor the Longines International Jockey's Championship and the Longines Jockey Club Cup.
"The Jockey Club and Longines share the same values and each has a long and distinguished history. This strategic partnership further reinforces the world-class standing of the Longines Hong Kong International Races, widely recognised and respected as the 'Turf World Championships'," said Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, CEO of HKJC. "Hong Kong racing is a high-end product synonymous with the city’s vibrant lifestyle. Our innovative approaches continue to raise the Hong Kong racing brand to celebrated new heights and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Longines for it’s generous support. We look forward to working with such a renowned and elegant brand as Longines.”
Longines has shown a passion and commitment to horse racing dating back to 1878, when it first produced a chronograph with a jockey and his mount on the case back. The brand is very popular with fans of equine sport and is involved in a number of flat racing, show jumping and endurance competitions.
"By becoming the title sponsor and official timekeeper of the Longines Hong Kong International Races and the Longines International Jockeys’ Championship, Longines is honoured to be part of these great events," said Longines’ President Walter von Känel. "This partnership with HKJC shows our worldwide commitment to equestrian sports, reflecting our devotion to and passion for these exciting, dynamic yet elegant sports, which match perfectly with our watchmaking heritage of 180 years."
