Bremont was Official Timing Partner at the 2014 Henley Classic, a 2.1 km endurance upstream River Thames swimming event held over the Henley Royal Regatta course.
The first Henley Swim took place in 2004 when ex-rowers Tom Kean and Jeremy Laming decided they wanted to swim the regatta course. They did it at 4.30am so they did not disturb the rowing event.
Continuing each year, the swim begins very early on the Sunday morning before the Wednesday start of Henley Royal Regatta. The upstream course measures 2,112 metres and is swum in between the regatta booms. A number of ex-Olympians and celebrities have taken part in the event, including Karen Pickering, Greg Whyte, Graham Bell and Adrian Moorhouse. The swimmers arrive in darkness and walk the 1/4 of a mile to the start into the sunrise, led by a torch carrier.
The 2014 Henley Classic took place on Sunday 10th August, beginning at 6am at Leander Club by the Henley bridge. More than 450 swimmers took part and finished at Marlow Rowing Club at around 3pm.
Bremont was announced as Official Timing Partner of the event in June.
"When we looked into Bremont we saw so many elements of their organisation that reflected our own values and aspirations that we knew immediately we could benefit from working together," said Jeremy Laming, Henley Swim co-founder, when the partnership was announced. "Like us they’re a local organisation who’ve established a big following within 10 years. Like us they serve people who place extraordinary demands on themselves, and like us everything they produce is meticulously crafted, unique and captures the spirit of adventure. We are excited to be working together and look forward to a partnership that will endure well into the future."
Nick English, Bremont co-founder added: "As a Henley based business it is fantastic to be supporting local initiatives. One of our ambassadors Graham Bell is set to swim the Classic again this year so we will of course be supporting him also. Henley Royal Regatta is undoubtedly the best known regatta in the world and is one of the highlights in the summer sporting calendar so we are proud to be involved and marking the occasion in this way."
