“Watermelon Sugar High” – Oris Releases the New Aquis Date Watermelon Watches
Friday - 24 May 2024
In the words of Harry Styles himself, the new watermelon-inspired Aquis Date watches from Oris couldn’t be more apt for the warm months ahead. Meet the summer-infused Oris Aquis Date Watermelon watches for 2024.
The new Oris Aquis Date watch for summer 2024 is no melon-choly design. It comes in a vibrant watermelon green or red dial iteration and begs to be worn under the summer rays this year. Be it enjoyed at the beach or on a yacht, sipping an ice-cool cocktail, the new Oris Aquis Date watch designs are packed with all the summer sweetness you need to get you through the long, hot days and nights.
The New Oris Aquis Date Watermelon – Picked Just in Time for Summer
The new Oris Aquis Date Watermelon watches for 2024 follow in the faithful footsteps of the popular Aquis line. The innovative dive watch range surfaced in 2011, following the brand’s legacy in manufacturing dive watches since the mid-1960s. Well-thought-out functions and a robust construction contribute to an all-around tool for pursuits underwater and on dry land. These new models adhere to the new credentials outlined in the Watches & Wonders 2024 releases in Geneva this year and boast a simple three-handed layout with the date window located at 6 o’clock. But, of course, there are other Aquis watch designs to choose from, should you wish to explore the line further. Some of these are limited editions and some feature depth gauges.
All the “Juicy” Details
Crisp like the crunch of a juicy watermelon itself, the legible dial of the new Oris Aquis Date watches is neat, clean and highly readable. The green and red dial variants are equipped with baton hour markers that are easy to reference in the dark, thanks to plenty of Super-LumiNova material applied to their surfaces. The same can be said for the central hour and minute hands. The pip on the top of the seconds hand has also been filled with lume. Whether you opt for the pink-red option reference 01 733 7787 4138-07 8 22 04PEB or the juicy green dial reference 01 733 7787 4137-07 8 22 04PEB, both models are equally legible, with the “Oris” and “Aquis” lettering at 12 and 6 o’clock respectively featured in white. The minute dashes around the edge of the dial also stand out well, as does the date situated at 6 o’clock, dressed against a white background.
As with all Oris Aquis Date watches, the red and green models are fitted with a unidirectional rotating bezel. The functional use of this bezel speaks for itself. Dip down to depths of 300 meters with these watches and you might want to measure elapsed time or calculate how long you have left down there. The unidirectional rotating bezel is an indispensable feature for professional or recreational divers since it tracks remaining time underwater. Simply align the 0 point on the bezel with the minute hand on the main dial and upon resurfacing, you can read off the amount of time spent underwater according to where the minute hand sits. The bezels of these new Oris Aquis Date Watermelon watches are filled with a white ceramic insert and adorned with matching green or red details to round the design off nicely.
The new Aquis Date Watermelon watches by Oris are crafted from stainless steel, measuring 41.5mm, and comprise a multipiece structure that includes a screw-down crown, emblazoned with the Oris logo and situated at 3 o’clock. The back of the case is another part of the construction. It has been screwed down and fitted with a piece of scratch-resistant mineral glass, enabling you to observe the movement as it performs. On the front of the watch, Oris specialists select a piece of domed anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass. It is one of the hardest materials, measuring second to a diamond. The sapphire crystal glass top protects the surface of the display from scratching, denting, dust, debris, water, heat and light damage.
Deep inside the heart of the case lies an automatic movement that keeps accurate time. The Oris 733 Calibre offers hours, minutes, seconds and date functions, as well as a date corrector, a fine timing device and a stop-second function. The movement, bearing a total of 26 jewels, performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and produces a power reserve of 41 hours once fully wound.
The new Oris Aquis Date Watermelon watches are fitted on three-piece stainless steel bracelets. The links of the bracelet have been executed in a mix of polished and brushed finishes. The lug measurement of 22mm gives you a good indication of watch strap options to buy, should you want to swap this out for a rubber or leather band, but I think it looks pretty neat on the popular Oris bracelet.
