Meet the NEW Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport Watches
Monday - 26 June 2023
Parmigiani Fleurier gives the Tonda PF Sport a subtle revamp with more distinct knurling on the bezel and a redesigned “Clou Triangulaire” textured guilloche dial. In doing so, the brand creates a new modernised and elegant interpretation of the three-handed GT watch.
The beauty of the Tonda PF
The beauty of the Tonda PF watch collection certainly lies within its finer, exclusive details. These include the barleycorn dial pattern that adorns each display, including those newly released for 2023 at the recent Watches & Wonders event in Geneva. The watches also have a distinct knurled bezel with a polished inner ring that has the innate ability to attract light and bring highlights to the watch in unusual ways. Looking closer into each dial of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF watch collection, you will see that the dials of these watches have faceted, polished hour markers that are subtly rectangular in shape. In cases like the new Tonda PF Automatic 36mm models, a stunning deep ruby dial and sand grey dial have been adorned with scintillating baguette-cut diamonds to enhance the rectangular shape of the golden, rhodium-coated hour markers. Each dial also bears the relatively young oval-shaped logo that defines the success and expertise of the brand with the simple PF motif. The lugs of the Tonda PF watches are rounded and stepped, leading to an integrated metal bracelet or a stylish alligator leather strap, as seen in the new Automatic 36 watches. The delta-shaped hands that taper to a point are skeletonised on the dial of these models. They lend themselves to a simple and sophisticated dial that is both pared back and easy to read.
Watches from the Tonda PF Sport line are characterised by an assertive aesthetic and a modernised character. Two new releases have joined the collection at the annual Geneva-based 2023 Watches & Wonders event. A guilloche dial is still present in these two new models, as is the knurled bezel and the delta-shaped hands. The two timepieces are offered in a classic stainless steel option or a more indulgent 18ct rose gold model – both of which feature a silver dial. These models have been released alongside two new panda Tonda PF Sport Chronograph watches in stainless steel and 18ct rose gold. These chronographs showcase an evolved, elegant and understated interpretation of the original GT line and feature a knurled bezel with more prominent notches for a sportier look and a refreshed aesthetic.
The new Tonda PF Sport watches
The two new automatic Sport models belonging to Parmigiani Fleurier’s Tonda PF collection also feature more prominent knurled bezels as well as the “triangular nail” pattern for the surface of the guilloche textured display. The large date takes on a new design and positioning on the dial at 6 o’clock, whilst the unmissable PF logo sits at the top of the dial at 12 o’clock. As mentioned, both of these models feature a silver guilloche dial but now have black luminescent material applied to the surface of each hour index and hand. It serves as a useful tool for keeping track of the time in dark conditions whilst the style of the PF watch is kept intact.
Affirming the sporty character of the Tonda PF Sport watch is the textural differences to the surface of the black rubber straps that enclose the wrist with a stainless steel or 18ct rose gold folding clasp. Whilst the stainless steel version of the new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport watch features silver-toned indexes and hands achieved through rhodium plating, the 18ct rose gold case features matching gold-plated hour markers and hands. The delta-shaped hands are skeletonised in true Tonda PF style and are powered by an automatic engine sitting within a 200-meter water-resistant housing.
The Calibre PF770 movement is the same engine used for the new Tonda PF Automatic watches – two simple time-only watches offered in deep ruby and sand grey. The movement is a self-winding engine that provides a power reserve of 60 hours and performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Developed from the ground up at Parmigiani Fleurier’s watchmaking facility, the movement comprises a total of 179 hand-assembled components including 28 jewels and sits behind a caseback crafted from scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass – the same material used for the front of the watch. Cotes de Geneve, polished and sand-blasted finishes, bevelled edges and a 22ct rose gold oscillating weight can also be admired through the watch’s crisp exhibition caseback.
