Meet the new Garmin Venu 2 Plus
Tuesday - 04 January 2022
Boasting the same high-resolution display, new HIIT activity profile, live watch faces and extended battery life of the recently launched Garmin Venu 2, the new Venu 2 Plus utilises a new case size and an incredible integrated speaker and microphone which provides a hands-free calling solution and digital assistant voice control.
Earlier this year, Garmin released their second generation of Venu watches with the Venu 2 and Venu 2S. Available in 45mm and 40mm, the designs marked a huge step forward for the smartwatch brand as we were welcome to a slew of updated health and sports features, a slick aesthetic and more importantly a high-resolution full colour AMOLED display. To follow on from this release, the brand have now released the Garmin Venu 2 Plus with a midway case design and even more innovative functionality.
Garmin Venu 2 Plus Standard Features
For the Garmin Venu 2 Plus, you can expect to find everything as standard on the Venu 2 and 2S models with some additional features on top. Before we take a look at what’s new for the Venu 2 Plus, let’s first take a look at what it has in common with the rest of the collection. First things first, the widely popular AMOLED display is back beautifully integrated into an almost bezel-less case. The display is colour OLED with a pixel resolution of 416x416. Thanks to the new display, it also means the Garmin Venu 2 Plus has an impressive battery life of up to 9 days in smartwatch mode and up to 10 days in Battery Saver Watch Mode.
Like all Garmin Venu 2 watches, the new Plus generation is also the first from the smartwatch brand to feature their new Elevate optical heart rate sensor package which promises better accuracy of heart rate monitoring. To pair with this, there’s a new HIIT workout profile which delivers on-watch sessions and guided workouts directly on the wrist. There’s also plenty of other health and fitness features including the Garmin Body Battery Energy monitor, hydration tracking, women’s health tracking and a mindful breathing app.
Other improvements on the Garmin Venu 2 include increased Pulse Ox accuracy, increased storage space for up to 200 hours of activity data, new Connect IQ 4.0 support, added Sleep Score, new widgets and new Health Snapshot feature which allows you to log a 2 minute session to record key stats, including heart rate2, heart rate variability, Pulse Ox3, respiration and stress and create a report.
What's New on the Garmin Venu 2 Plus
So what does the Garmin Venu 2 Plus offer over its smaller counterparts? Other than the obvious difference in case size which now comes in at 43.6mm, the design is fully engineered from stainless steel and fibre-reinforced polymer with a steel bezel, case back, buckle and three buttons (the standard Venu 2 only has two buttons). There are currently three variations of the Venu 2 Plus including a Silver and Powder Grey model, a Slate and Black design and a Cream Gold and Ivory watch.
The most important improvement is the addition of an integrated speaker and microphone for useful voice functionality. This means you can take or initiate phone calls entirely hands free from the Garmin Venu 2 Plus as long as your smartphone is in Bluetooth range. You can also utilise your smartphone’s digital assistany, easily call the emergency services or your emergency contacts with and activate attention grabbing alert sounds for when an incident is detected.
