Edox C0-1 Chrono 2023 Watches Review
Thursday - 15 June 2023
If you’re intrigued about the C01 Chrono watch from Edox then now is probably a great time to read this article. The truth is, the Edox C01 Chrono watch is one of them models that you can’t completely appreciate until you wear it. A couple of years ago, the brand released a carbon ceramic resin dive watch that featured a helium escape valve, a 500-meter water resistance, a rotating dive timing bezel, screw-down pushers and crown, and a gold-coloured movement. It constituted the perfect watch to be worn over the summer period, which makes it quite apt to talk about the manufacturer’s latest addition to the line. This watch is a companion for any aquatic adventure and is perfect for oceans, lakes and swimming pools, combining a high-tech case with impressive water resistance and a donating bold wrist presence.
The C01 Chronograph watch from Edox was originally designed for the rigours of offshore powerboat racing and is known for its beefy dimensions, its angular lugs and its sharp mix of brushed and polished case surfaces. The case is tall and aggressive and features a distinguishable pillbox crown that is screwed down and oversized to add to the masculinity and confidence of the watch’s design.
The new Edox C0-1 Chrono watches
The three newest watches from the C0-1 Chrono collection by Edox are all crafted from titanium – a material chosen for its robustness and its lightweight qualities. Combining this dive tool with lightweight titanium and a sporty chronograph function brings with it some special qualities that are worth highlighting across all three models.
First up, the watch (and its two new siblings) features a helium escape valve. The decompression system allows helium to escape the inside of the watch, enabling the movement inside the case to run smoothly whilst free from the negative effects of helium build-ups. Such situations can often be associated with deep-sea diving or whilst worn for hours at a time during crude oil work or similar professional use. Secondly, its ceramic bezel is four times harder than stainless steel and is known for its incredible scratch resistance. The durable material also prevents colour fading. On top of this, the case is 45% lighter than a conventional stainless steel case and is also stronger, constituting a perfect companion for outdoor exploration, sports and generally active lifestyles. All of these features marry with a staggering 1000-meter water resistance, making the C0-1 one of the hardiest and most capable watches on the market for its price bracket. This impressive water-resistant capability enables the watch to be utilised for bell diving and saturation diving, not to mention other extreme deep-water exploration.
The Edox C0-1 Chrono watch reference 10242 TINM GIDNO has a classic black dial that is paired with a flash of vivid orange seen in its arrow-tipped minute hand. The zesty orange colour coordinates with a minute track around the very edge of the dial and is surrounded by a glossy ceramic bezel in black. The unidirectional rotating bezel can be aligned with the sharp orange arrow-tipped minute hand to measure elapsed time whilst underwater thanks to its innovative design that will move only in the counter-clockwise direction. This feature ensures that dive time can never be accidentally extended under heavy diving gear, thus becoming dangerous whilst timing stops during an ascent and descent. To finish, a bright orange tip can be seen in the chronograph second hand as well as the chronograph counter hands, popping against the stealthy black dial.
The new C0-1 Chrono watch from Edox with the 10242-TINB-BUICDNO reference has a striking light blue dial with the same bright orange accents. Surprisingly, these two colour tones work in harmony with one another, creating a sporty and cool “beach” vibe that will pair with the wrist effortlessly when spending your summer days close to the ocean waves. Like the other two new releases, the watch is fitted with the brand’s patented crown design which first put the brand on the map for its superior expertise in developing wristwatches for water. This special crown, along with the two push-pieces, has a double O’ring to prevent moisture from entering the case. The screw-down crown and pushers are also smooth and easy to operate, providing a satisfying click whether pulling the crown out for simply adjusting the time or activating the pushers for effortless chronograph control. The dial, like the other two models, offers a small second counter that is slightly off-set at 9 o’clock, as well as a 24-hour totaliser at 6 o’clock and a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock.
The new Edox C0-1 Chrono watch reference 10242-TINBN-VIDNOAll has a stunning green dial colour that is almost seafoam-inspired. The same orange accents are employed across the dial and the model, along with the blue version, fitted on a contemporary white rubber band and a deployant buckle in matching titanium. The black version, however, comes complete on a titanium bracelet with a fastening that has been engraved with the Edox name.
All three new C0-1 Chrono watches from Edox have visible hands and hour markers that have been treated with generous amounts of Super-LumiNova for helping with timekeeping in the dark or during the night. The hour track is represented by a mix of trapezoid and circular markers, with a double marker at 12 o’clock and a bold oversized Arabic numeral marking out the 1 o’clock location. The watches are all topped with a strong protective pane of anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass. The material that is second hardest to a diamond helps protect the dial from denting, dust, moisture, light and heat damage and protects a date window at 3 o’clock, set against a white background. All three are powered by a quartz movement that sits inside a 45mm titanium case with a sealed caseback.
