A Look at the NEW Elliot Brown Bloxworth Heritage Diver Watch
Friday - 16 June 2023
Whilst lockdown brought with it a great deal of uncertainty for much of the world, in other ways it gave way to new concepts – a breathing space for innovative ideas and a chance whilst working from home to start over on something fresh and altogether different. That was certainly the case for Elliot Brown who, during this time, birthed the idea of the Bloxworth Heritage Diver. During this time, the brand already had the Bloxworth Chronograph to play about with. What Elliot Brown wanted to do, however, was to create a dive tool inspired by diving watches from the 1950s and 1960s to complement this line. Here’s how the brand did it...
Firstly, experts had the Bloxworth case to use as a starting point. Its chamfered shoulders already reduced the feel of the watch’s size yet a 40mm diameter further supported its compact and comfortable designs for wearing daily. Combined with this was a boxed crystal, giving the top surface of the watch a traditional feel. With an almost cog-like feel, the coin-edged bezel of the Bloxworth Heritage Diver watch was designed for an easy grip, with splines that sit just proud of the case. Investing in premium materials for the bezel was a good choice from experts at Elliot Brown. The ceramic bezel, for example, is a material that promises durability and longevity, with a scratch-resistant surface that enables the numerals on the diving scale to stand out with ultimate legibility. The basket weave texture on the straps of these Elliot Brown dive watches is another really beautiful thing. It combines perfectly with the sandwich design of the dial, presented in different colours for these new 2023 releases.
A completely new moulded shape was cut for the strap too. The Heritage Diver watch needed a “tropical” inspired rubber band and this was accompanied by a deployant buckle that released with a squeeze between the fingertips. On the inside of the strap is a twisted rope breather lined effect that is seen daily on the brand’s working boat yard where its HQs are located. During the pandemic, the final tech packs were delayed resulting in the team having to review the watch with fresh eyes once they arrived. This delay may have been a blessing in disguise, however, as it enabled the team at Elliot Brown to go through a detailed tweaking and refining process before the finished product was ready. The first designs worked on were a steel case with black or grey dial but eventually, the brand was able to open up other options for dial colours, adding orange, vintage tan and a chalky deep blue.
The new Elliot Brown Bloxworth Heritage Diver watches
Sitting firmly in the black and tan camp, the contrast between the handset and background of this Heritage Diver watch reference 929-105-B07 from the Bloxworth series by Elliot Brown is staggering. The piano black dial, glossy and refined, enables tan-coloured hour markers in a mix of stick markers and Arabic numerals to stand out with pride for easy referencing whilst in dark conditions. Added to that is its generous helping of luminous material on the elements. What’s more the tan colour of these hands and hour markers donates a vintage-inspired finish to this Heritage Diver watch. The model comes with a matching black ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel. The watch is completed on a steel bracelet.
Another option is the bright orange dial of the Bloxworth Heritage Diver watch reference 929-104-B07. It features the same tan-coloured elements on the dial but a contrasting black ceramic bezel with white 60-minute scale markings on its surface. This one, different from the black and tan model is a steel model finished on a stainless steel bracelet to give the Heritage Diver watch a different colour combination that looks sporty and bold.
The chalky blue and steel watch reference 929-103-B07 from Elliot Brown’s new releases from the Bloxworth Heritage Diver range is likely the most classic of all. The central seconds hand is executed similarly to the other diver models with an orange tip and features a classic stainless steel link bracelet which gives the dive watch a more classy feel when wearing it as an accompaniment to evening attire at night. The richness of the deep blue hue on this dial is almost black in certain lights but is separated beautifully by its surrounding black ceramic bezel.
A softer grey dial is also available, combined with a black ceramic bezel and a finely brushed bronze IP case. Limited to just 250 pieces, this iteration is sure to be an instant sell-out. The finish on its case is a perfect match the vintage tan-coloured luminous markers and hands. Finished on a bracelet to match, this light grey dial goes by the reference of 929-106-B12 and boasts a hint of orange once again in the central second hand.
The vapour-blasted dark gunmetal finish on the reference 929-102-B09 shows just how the simple change of a case from light to dark can give the Bloxworth Heritage Diver watch a completely different look and feel. Once again, the orange tip on the seconds hand on the dial really does pop against a rich black ceramic bezel and a black sandwich dial. The same black dial can also be enjoyed on a stainless steel case and bracelet as seen in the reference 929-101-B07, complete with an embossed basket weave dial centre, white Arabic numerals and hands (as opposed to the tan version), and a super robust case to creating a modern finish on the wrist.
Whichever new Bloxworth Heritage Diver watch you choose, there are many design elements to celebrate in this design. The matt tungsten hour markers and hands with sandy lume are a favoured choice for many dive watch collectors since it achieves a vintage finish. Embossed into the surface of the rubber bands are the EB logo elements and each strap is fitted with a handsome split deployant buckle. The Compressor case of these watches continues the basket weave pattern around the back of the design, framing a raised and polished shield on the metal’s surface.
Quick change bars also enable you to switch the watch between the rubber band and the metal bracelet as well as a heritage webbing strap whenever required. Lastly, these marine-grade stainless steel cases are 40mm in diameter and are integrated with a water resistance of 200 meters. Inside these cases are Swiss-made Ronda quartz movements for unparalleled accuracy day and night.
