Celebrations of the Carrera’s 60th anniversary are still in full swing as we see the Swiss brand release a stunning green chronograph version, adorned with white elements to make timekeeping and measuring elapsed time completely effortless when “under pressure”
There is no denying that the TAG Heuer Carrera watch has become one of the most popular and stylish timepieces to own since it launched back in the late 1960s. Underscoring the brand’s connection to sport and the motor racing industry, the models from this series are perfect for pairing with casual attire yet retain a sense of elegance thanks to their sporty stainless steel profiles. TAG Heuer Carrera watches were designed by Jack Heuer and inspired by the Carrera Panamericana rally that took place in Mexico during the 1950s.
This year, TAG Heuer unveiled its first action comedy to mark 60 years of the iconic Carrera. Brand ambassador, Ryan Gosling and actress Vanessa Bayer feature in a world-first Hollywood action-comedy movie “The Chase For Carrera”, which sees Ryan Gosling run for his life to keep the Carrera watch he was filming a movie with on his wrist. All the while, he is being chased by American actress, comedian and writer, Vanessa Bayer who starred in “I Love That For You” and “Saturday Night Live”. It is the first time TAG Heuer has ever done anything like this, yet it perfectly underscores the Swiss watchmaker’s motto “Don’t Crack Under Pressure”. Gosling, famous for his roles in “The Gray Man” and “Drive”, is also an ambassador for the brand and is seen sporting the latest deep blue TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox watch.
Suffice to say, for this great celebration of the Carrera’s design, the newest models sport a design that is as modern as ever, with refined indexes and hands that perfectly capture the light, elongated lugs that feel solid and powerful, and new pushers to accompany a new metal crown. A bold green dial represents one of the latest releases to emerge from the sporty elegant Carrera watch collection. Its sunray finish gives the wristwatch an eye-catching allure and gives depth to a set of markers that have been crafted in the familiar baton form to denote the hours around the outer section of the dial. These match perfectly with a set of straight hour and minute hands - both of which have been treated with Super-LumiNova for circumstances where you might need to reference the time in dark conditions or during the night. The stainless steel model that measures a diameter of 44mm creates a considerable presence on the wrist and is equipped with a tachymeter scale in white to measure distance based on speed. Should you require more stopwatch functions, you have a chronograph sub-counter at 3 o’clock to track 30-minute intervals or a sub-counter located at 9 o’clock for 12-hour intervals. These sub-scales are balanced by a legible date window at 6 o’clock that has been incorporated into a small second sub-dial.
As with all TAG Heuer Carrera watches, this new green version is equipped with a strong piece of sapphire crystal glass, which protects the surface of the dial from damage created by dust, denting light, heat and moisture. The back of the case can be flipped over to admire a sapphire crystal glass exhibition feature that puts the in-house Calibre 02 on display as it performs. The self-winding engine performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and produces a power reserve of 80 hours once fully wound. Complementing the bevelled sapphire crystal dome on the front of the watch is the fine brushed finish of the case, with polished elements that can be seen on the push-pieces and the TAG Heuer-stamped crown.
