The new Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph Deep Green watch has a rich green display with contrasting black-filled sub-counters that give the model an overall sporty and dynamic character.
When we look back at Seiko’s involvement in providing accurate time within the sporting world, we have the Japanese brand’s heart-shaped cam to thank for that. The Seiko chronograph would later go on to evolve with the introduction of the column wheel and the vertical clutch. Back in November 2021, Seiko launched some Prospex Speedtimer Chronograph watches, inspired by an earlier 1969 Prospex Speedtimer. The four solar-powered variations were equipped with a power reserve indicator and a 60-minute chronograph function. They take inspirational cues from the original 1969 Speedtimer watch, which was specifically developed for keeping accurate time for several sporting federations back then.
Influencing the four 2021 models, an option of a silver, navy blue, gold or black dial colour was offered. Furthermore, they featured an innovative 24-hour scale at 3 o’clock, a 60-minute function at 6 o’clock, and the aforementioned power reserve indicator integrated alongside it. The small seconds counter could also be tracked at 9 o’clock, whilst a date indicator sat at 4:30. Alas, if you’ve already dabbled in these solar-powered Seiko watches and you’re ready to refresh your collection, you’ll be pleased to know that Seiko is releasing a new model, dressed in a striking deep green dial with black sub-counters. Its look is something of a new thing completely. Something really draws the eye towards its unusual colour combination. Pair that with the innovative features of this solar-powered chronograph watch and you suddenly have something quite hard to resist. The dial itself has been finished with an entrancing radial finish and its overall look conveys that of the original 1960s and 1970s Seiko chronographs. Let’s delve in a little further...
When the original Seiko Prospex Speedtimer 1969 was released, it was the first chronograph to feature the vertical clutch and column wheel mechanism. Both of these devices delivered significant improvements by way of their chronograph operation. The crucial qualities of the Prospex Speedtimer have always been its high level of readability and legibility. To enhance its dramatic and sporty appeal further on the wrist, the youngest Speedtimer Solar watch from the Prospex range features smooth polishes and fine hairline finishes upon its case, as well as a curved sapphire crystal glass front that compliments the beautifully engineered design of the bracelet.
