TW Steel ambassador Dario Franchitti won the 2012 Indianapolis 500, joining an elite group of drivers to have won the race three times.
The Indianapolis 500 is an annual racing event held in Indiana, USA, on the last weekend of May each year. The 500-mile race consists of 200 laps and is billed as "the greatest spectacle in racing". Dario Franchitti is only the 10th driver in the event's 96-year history to become a three-time Indy 500 champion, with previous wins in 2007 and 2010.
Franchitti secured his Indy 500 treble on May 27th with a thrilling performance in a race that included a record-breaking 35 lead changes. The Scottish driver began poorly, but was able to move from last place into first to seal the victory.
Dario Franchitti has been a global brand ambassador of TW Steel since 2010, and wears his TW Steel watch during each race. The brand believes he "embodies excellence" and is a "true motorsport gent", honouring his achievements with the creation of a special edition timepiece.
The
TW Steel Dario Franchitti Limited Edition is available in two case widths:
45 mm and
48 mm. It has a black dial, high grade 316L steel case, mineral crystal with sapphire layer, and a black rubber strap. Designed by Franchitti himself, the colours are inspired by his Scottish and Italian heritage.
"Anyone who knows me will tell you that if I had a passion away from racing, other than my love of cars, it would be for watches,” Franchotti says. “I’ve always appreciated a fine timepiece and when I was first introduced to TW Steel I was certainly impressed with their commitment to designing something unique but very appealing. In TW Steel I’ve found the perfect partner. We’re both driven by a pursuit of excellence and a true passion for watch design."
