Basel Review New Watches from Sinn
Tuesday - 20 March 2012
The Sinn 103 Classic is a limited edition model based on the 103 A, a watch from the brand's early collections. While the styling is modelled on its 1960s predecessor, the new design includes the latest Sinn technologies.
The new 103 Classic features a captive pilot's bezel with minute ratcheting, and dehumidifying technology to enhance reliability and prevent fogging. The polished stainless steel case measures 41 mm, with anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass front and back.
The glossy black dial features silver electroplated counters, and the indices and hands are coated with luminescent colour for visibility in darkness. Movement is mechanical Valjoux 7750 Tricompax with self-winding mechanism.
The 103 Class is a limited edition of 500 pieces and is available with three strap choices: a fine link bracelet, solid bracelet, or cowhide strap with alligator embossing.
Model 140
The Sinn 140 A, 140 St and 140 St S are redesigns of the 140 space chronograph series. The original 140 model was worn by German physicist and astronaut Reinhard Furrer during the D-1 Spacelab mission in 1985, demonstrating that automatic watches could function in a weightless environment.
The new 140 A now incorporates the Sinn SZ01 chronograph movement and dehumidifying technology. The case is made of polished stainless steel with Tegiment technology that increases scratch resistance, and the watch is water resistant to 100 metres.
The matte black dial features silver electroplated counters and an interior pilot's bezel. Hands and indices are coated with luminescent colour, and the chronograph function indicators are coated with daylight luminous paint. The polished and satinised stainless steel case measures 44 mm and has anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass. The caseback is screw-fastened.
The 140 A is available with a cowhide strap, or a solid bracelet with Tegiment technology. It is a limited edition of just 200 pieces.
The two non limited versions, the 140 S and 140 St, incorporate most of the same features, but the case is made from bead-blasted stainless steel.
The 140 S variation features black hard coating on a Tegiment technology basis. The 140 St case also features Tegiment technology. Both are available with a black cowhide strap.
Model 901
Sinn has collaborated with SUG in Glashütte to produce a technologically sophisticated case that allows the wearer to finely adjust the lugs, extending or shortening the bracelet length for increased comfort on the wrist. The mechanism is built into the case and allows altering by up to 3 x 0.8 mm on each side.
The case measures 38.4 mm, and is made from polished and satinised stainless steel with Tegiment technology for extra scratch resistance. The 901 includes a date display, chronograph and temperature resistance technology that ensures the timepiece will function correctly within a temperature range of -40°C to 80°C. It is water resistant to 100 metres, and features domed sapphire crystal glass that is anti-reflective on both sides. Movement is mechanical Valijoux 7750.
The Model 901 is limited to just 150 pieces.
Model 6090
The Sinn 6090 is the latest addition to the brand's series of Frankfurt Financial District models. It features a finely decorated movement with a 'Bull and Bear' rotogravure, in tribute to the stock exchange city of Frankfurt.
The Model 6090 has a diameter of 41.5 mm and features a electroplated black dial, rhodium-plated appliqués, large date display at 12 o'clock, and three time zones on 12 hour basis. The case is made of polished stainless steel and features anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass on the front and back. The appliqués and hand are coated with luminescent colour.
Movement is mechanical ETA 2892-A2 with self-winding mechanism. The watch is presented in a wood case with a fine link bracelet, cowhide strap, band replacement tool, spar spring bars, watchmaker's loupe and cleaning cloth.
Model 6110 Technik
The Sinn 6110 Technik displays advanced watchmaking technology and uses high quality movement parts, including a Glucydur screw balance, a Triovis precision regulator system and a Nivarox 1 balance spring. The manually wound Unitas 6498-1 movement is embellished with Geneva stripes and blued screws.
The case is made of polished and satinised stainless steel and has a diameter of 44 mm. The front and transparent case back are made of anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass. The watch has a black electroplated dial with sunburst decoration. The appliqués and hands are coated with luminescent colour.
The 6110 Technik has a black cowhide strap with alligator embossing.
EZM 10
The Sinn EZM 10 was designed as a mission timer that meets the demands of a professional pilot's watch. The watch incorporates clear readability and a centre-mounted 60 minute stopwatch hand.
The timepiece has a backwards-counting pilot's bezel with minute ratcheting and luminous key mark, and the ring insert is made of sapphire crystal glass. The chronograph function indicators are coated with orange daylight luminous paint, allowing them to be seen in the ultraviolet light of a darkened cockpit.
Features include DIAPAL for a lubrication-free escapement, dehumidifying technology to prevent fogging, and temperature resistance technology to ensure accuracy within -45°C to 80°C. Movement is mechanical Sinn SZ01 with self-winding mechanism.
The 46.5 mm case is made from bead-blasted high-strength titanium with Tegiment technology. The matte black dial is protected by anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass. Integrated into the case are large push-pieces with black hard coating on a Tegiment technology basis, ensuring easy use of the chronograph. The watch is water resistant to 200 metres.
The EZM 10 is available with a choice of solid titanium bracelet with Tegiment technology, a cowhide strap, or a silicon strap.
