Chopard and Julia Roberts
Sunday - 07 April 2024
Hollywood star Julia Roberts, loved the world over for her radiant smile and graceful demeanour, has a relationship with Chopard that is bound by virtues of creativity and gracefulness.
Is there a more elegant woman who could embody the enduring style of a Chopard timepiece better than Julia Roberts herself? One would be inclined to think not, especially after a browse through the manufacturer’s current catalogue. Some of the most recent Chopard watches to be released are, quite simply, out of this world. Very befitting of a high-profile actress, Julie Roberts is draped across the core lines of Chopard’s key watch collections right now, promoting some of the finest Chopard creations to date. These scintillating, diamond-clad watches and shimmering statement-piece jewellery designs look more than at home on the wrist of the A-list Hollywood star.
The unique connection between the two personifies the confidence and free-spirited nature of the modern woman. Somehow, Roberts manages to shine an entirely new light on collections like the Chopard Eagle in the brand’s recent Chopard Loves Cinema campaign. She is seen enjoying mischievous moments with the watch, while other episodes see her promoting self-love with intimate moments shared between herself and designs like the Happy Hearts jewellery collection.
Chopard and Film
Chopard has been an official partner of the Cannes Film Festival since 1998 and has been actively contributing to film production since then. The Trophee Chopard is evidence of the brand’s involvement in the event, gifting the award to an up-and-coming actor or actress each year. In Julia Roberts, however, the brand expresses a kindred spirit with the movie icon. Caroline Scheufele approached Julia Roberts, asking her to be the face of the newest members of the Happy Sport watch collection, stating;
“It was her and nobody else! Julia Roberts was the only person I felt could convey the spirit that I see in Happy Sport."
Roberts came under the spotlight after her lead roles in several iconic films of the 1990s. Her infectious laugh and radiating smile were just two of many reasons why she became an instantly loved master of her craft. In 2001, she was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress and was acclaimed by critics for her roles in romantic comedies and feel-good films including “Pretty Woman” and “Erin Brockovich”.
In 2016, she climbed the famous stairs of the Palais de Festival in Cannes, barefoot in a sleek black off-the-shoulder dress. The iconic moment went down in history as the most memorable red carpet staircase event in recent years. It was thanks in part to the Chopard High Jewellery emerald and diamond necklace that she chose to wear. Since then, she has expressed her excitement to continue her relationship with the brand, stating;
“I am honoured to be collaborating with Chopard on the Happy Sport watch, one of the most iconic and desirable models in the industry”.
Julia Roberts and the Happy Sports Watch
Orchestrating the special encounter between the accomplished actress and Swiss manufacturer, the Happy Sport watch collection first enrobed the actress’ wrist in a 2021 campaign. Since then, the duo have become the face of an iconic collaboration. The screen legend successfully personifies the brand’s “Joie de Vivre” motto with new versions of this influential collection. This year marks the brand’s new Chopard Loves Cinema campaign which will see Roberts representing all of Chopard’s ladies' timepieces, high jewellery and luxury jewellery collections.
A series of short films show how the Oscar-winning global ambassador for the brand instinctively connects with the concept of the moving diamond. The watches from the Happy Sport watch collection boast free-floating diamonds that are encased between two pieces of sapphire atop the dial. Whilst never interfering with the timekeeping hands of the watch, these scintillating diamonds, as radiant as the smile of the lady who styles them, bring to life a free-spirited yet versatile demeanour. Chopard Happy Sport watches are made to be enjoyed 24 hours of a day, whether attending a high-profile event or partaking in a spot of tennis.
Julia Roberts and Chopard
In addition to sporting the designs of the Happy Sport watch collection, Julia Roberts expresses the pieces of the Happy Hearts jewellery line humorously and electrically. Just like the actress herself, the designs are undeniably creative and express confidence and elegance simultaneously. The pieces are, in many ways, a reflection of the light cultivated within she who wears them.
The actress also adorns her skin with designs from the luxuriously wearable Precious Lace series. These elegant jewellery designs are light and fluid to the touch, constituting an exposed network of gold and diamonds inspired by the delicate material itself. This fascinating dialogue between femininity and substance plays with the boundaries of strength and fragility.
Alongside these creations, Roberts styles the manufacturer’s Ice Cube jewellery designs. These edgy, minimalistic designs are remarkably contemporary. Comprising a range of multi-faceted designs, they are both emblematic and perfect for mixing and matching, as Roberts demonstrates so well.
Julia Roberts and the Alpine Eagle
The sporty chic Alpine Eagle watch has never looked better. Inspired by the grace of an eagle and the majestic Swiss Alps, the range offers memorable designs for both men and women. With a wealth of references made to nature, these designs signify the brand’s responsible approach to watch and jewellery making. With models made from Lucent Steel and ethical gold, each timepiece is equipped with a high-frequency movement and is chronometer-certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute. Chopard’s short episode promoting the brand’s latest Chopard Loved Cinema campaign sees the famed actress mischievously sporting the Alpine Eagle on her wrist as she playfully pans around with the lens of a camera.
