About Tissot PRX watches
The Tissot PRX watch collection is a broad range of watches that appeals to classic steel sports watch collectors due to its series of models with distinct Genta-inspired designs. The series comprises three-handed models and chronographs that are available in quartz or automatic models – all of which skilfully embrace the zeitgeist of the 1970s with their guilloche-patterned dials and integrated bracelets that create the perfect sporty steel luxe look. The Tissot PRX makes a pretty good alternative to the Royal Oak watch by Audemars Piguet – a watch that was known for its astronomical price tag right from the moment it was unveiled in 1972. The PRX came along in 1978, following in its footsteps and other watches designed by the legendary Gerald Genta, such as the Nautilus by Patek Philippe. PRX watches by Tissot are collectable for their nicely coloured dials that come in a range of shades including green, blue, silver and the classic black. In 2022, Tissot launched the PRX Chronographs which provide a 60-hour power reserve thanks to a reliable Valjoux movement. The latest models to join the PRX family are the new 35mm size models that are, for the first time, powered by an automatic movement as opposed to a quartz one.
The new 35mm Tissot PRX automatic watches take everything we know and love about the Powermatic 80 40mm models and condense them into a more compact and wearable 35mm model. The size is ideal for those with slender wrists, as well as those who have always wanted to enjoy the PRX in this size but with a self-winding movement. Tissot has combined the best of both worlds with the new Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 35mm watch, available in a black, deep green, dark blue and a white mother of pearl dial. You get the same 70s-inspired vibe when you wear the new 35mm models.
The “steel sports watch” aesthetic is delivered in bucket loads thanks to the desirable integrated stainless steel bracelet, a date window located at 3 o’clock and a waffle dial, but now with the advantage of a movement that is powered by the motion of the wearer’s wrist. Flip the watch over and you even get to admire the performance of the Powermatic 80 movement, based on the ETA 2824-2, whilst it delivers a performance of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 80 hours once fully wound. The new Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 35mm models are all integrated with 100-meter water resistance and have been sealed, front and back, with a piece of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass The material is also anti-reflective, enabling you to enjoy referencing the time, day or night without the added undesirable effects of glare from the sun or artificial lighting.
What do we think about smaller-sized watches?
Small size watches are a growing trend. At one time, watches were naturally smaller in size and constituted a piece of jewellery for the wrists of the wealthy. Over the last decade or two, the luxury watch industry has been churning out beefed-up watches that create an imposing presence on the wrist. Now it seems we are course correcting, having returned to smaller-sized watches, with 38 and 40mm watches proving to be both practical and stylish. Without a doubt, there will be a large audience that will be pleased about the new 35mm Tissot PRX with automatic movement. Those steel sports watches in larger sizes were a lot of metal for the wrist, especially once the integrated bracelet is factored in. Now smaller wrists can enjoy all the much-loved features of the PRX without the risk of swamping their arm with a chunk of steel. As always, we’d love to know what you think. Drop your comments at the bottom and let us know if you think a 35mm size is the new 40.
