Louis Erard & Massena LAB Launch Le Chronographe Monopoussoir Watch
Tuesday - 27 June 2023
Available in a 2N gilded golden-coloured dial or a rhodium-coated option, the new Le Chronographe Monopoussoir Louis Erard x Massena LAB watch takes inspiration from 19th-century vintage marine chronometers with its simplified chronograph design and single-pusher case
One of the latest names to have joined Louis Erard’s long list of collaborative efforts with some of the greatest names in the watch industry was Massena LAB when it released the Le Regulateur Louis Erard X Massena LAB watch last year. The watch was a tribute to the great Antide Janvier - a famous French clockmaker. William Messena himself is a huge fan of vintage watchmaking and has specialised in developing and designing exquisite timepieces – mainly by collaborating with other designers over the years. The Le Regulateur Louis Erard X Massena LAB watch was a take on 19th-century marine chronometers with an intricate, metallic dial executed in a rhodium-plated or 2N gold-plated finish. Now Louis Erard collaborates with Messena LAB again for the release of the new Le Chronographe Monopoussoir Louis Erard x Massena LAB.
Over the years, Louis Erard has collaborated with many well-known names in the industry whilst under the creative direction of Manual Emch. These include creator seconde/seconde, Label Noir and independent watchmaker, Alain Silberstein to name just a few examples. Technically advanced in its ability to keep accurate time, the new Le Chronographe Monopoussoir Louis Erard x Massena LAB is once again inspired by clocks and marine chronometers of the late 18th century and early 19th century. The textures, the layout of the dial, and the colours of the indexes have all been beautifully balanced to celebrate this second design with Massena LAB. These classic codes are combined with contemporary elements to achieve that unmistakable antique marine chronometer-inspired character, plus it is fitted with a 21st-century monopusher chronograph movement.
The new Le Chronographe Monopoussoir Louis Erard x Massena LAB
Last year, Louis Erard’s collaborative watch with Massena LAB featured two counters placed on a north-south axis. One offered the main timekeeping hours in classic crisp black Roman numeral hour markers and the other featured the running seconds. These counters were accompanied by a large central minute hand in a layout that is recognised as the traditional regulator style. This year, the new Le Chronographe Monopoussoir Louis Erard x Massena LAB features one counter located at 12 o’clock. The single pusher watch expresses a great level of simplicity with this 30-minute counter, joined by central hour and minute hands on the main dial. The model is offered in two different dial options. The reference 74239AA71 has a silver opaline counter and blued steel central hands that are set against a 2N gilded lower plate with a grained finish. The outer flange is rhodium plated and features a satin finish and diamond-cut corners. Black transfers depicting the minutes are crisp and easy to read against this classic dial.
The reference 74239AA70 features a rhodium-plated lower plate with a grained finish and a silver opaline 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock location. The flange is executed in a rhodium plating, adorned with crisp black markers, along with blued steel leaf-shaped central hour and minute hands once more. In both models, you can see the famous Messena LAB name and logo above the 6 o’clock location, protected underneath a strong piece of anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass.
The single pusher at 3 o’clock on both of these Louis Erard X Massena LAB watches is used to start, stop and reset the simple chronograph functions. The models are both crafted from stainless steel and measure a diameter of 43mm. They each sit at a depth of 15.7mm and are manufactured from a three-piece case construction, topped with the already-mentioned sapphire crystal glass front. The glass has received layers of anti-reflective treatment on both sides to grant a clear view into the dial at any point during the day. Flip the case of the watch over and you get to admire the performance of the Sellita SW500MPCa calibre as it beats meticulously inside a 50-meter water-resistant case.
The Sellita SW500MPCa Calibre comprises 25 jewels and beats at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour whilst featuring a specially decorated oscillating weight adorned with the Louis Erard logo upon its surface. The movement also produces a power reserve of 48 hours once fully wound.
The finishing touches of the new Le Chronographe Monopoussoir Louis Erard x Massena LAB include the Louis Erard emblem and Messena LAB logo on the surface of the monopusher crown, as well as the classic black grained calf leather strap – perfect for adding a sophisticated finishing touch to evening attire. The leather band has tone-on-tone stitching and a stainless steel pin buckle with spring bars that enable the strap to be easily changed over to another whenever required.
