The Rado Star Prize Switzerland 2012 winner has been revealed as German artist Katrin Korfmann.
The international photography prize, organised by Rado watches and Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography, aims to "create a cultural exchange between Asia and Europe".
Korfmann's work, entitled 'Count for Nothing', was selected from 300 applications by a judging panel of renowned specialists from photography, design and the watch industry. The artist's winning image was made up of hundreds of birds eye view shots from across the globe, each one made by merging several photographs taken in the same place. She aimed to "capture the memory of a place by creating a literal illustration of time".
Rado launched its Star Prize in 2008 to support artistic talent and reflect the brand's philosophy of exploring new territories. The competition invites artists to "break new ground and share in the brand's proven belief that everything that can be imagined is potentially real".
Each year the winner is helped to gain exposure, network and begin new projects to improve their future, with the 2012 prizes including production costs of up to CHF 10,000, a trip to China, and an exhibition in Shanghai's OFOTO Gallery.
