The landing...
We are excited to be able to release new information on the landing area of our watch into space, where it waited to be found for 19 days!
The Launch
Following a combination of rain and cloud causing early visual problems, when launched the flight path was caught between two weather fronts, which added an interesing twist to the chase down. View the launch below.
Fascinating Facts about the Flight
The reason we chose this watch is because it maintains time using satellite signals.
The watch achieved altitudes of over 35.8km, almost double what is widely considered to be the accepted gateway to space; the Armstrong line (19km) – named after Neil Armstrong – so we can 100% say that the watch has ‘BEEN TO SPACE'
The reason we launched on Thursday 20th July is because it was International ‘Space Exploration Day'
The balloon was inflated to around 1.5m wide, or the size of a small car.
The air pressure caused it to expand to around 10 – 15m wide, or the size of a bus.
Eventually the balloon burst and began to fall
There was little/no atmosphere so there was no resistance to slow the package down
– it reached a speed of 100mph. When the watch re-entered the Earth's atmosphere, the air pressure was much higher, filling the parachute, slowing the watch down to around 3 – 4 mph.
It slowly fell back to Earth, and waited to be found.
