Since we opened our first shop in Bakewell, Derbyshire, C W Sellors have always held a stunning selection of diamond jewellery designs. Every diamond we use is responsibly sourced and carefully examined to ensure the very highest of standards in cut, colour and clarity, guaranteeing a sparkle that's sure to dazzle.
C W SELLORS TIMELINE
1979
With a focus and passion for producing handcrafted jewellery with the locally sourced Derbyshire Blue John gemstone, the green shoots of the business emerge as Chris Sellors turns to local jewellers and tourist destinations, including Chatsworth House to help retail his first jewellery designs. Following many successful sales, C W Sellors Fine Jewellery is officially established in 1979.
1980’s
To meet growing demand, C W Sellors Fine Jewellery opens its first boutique in Bakewell, Derbyshire under the name Blue John Gallery. Having also long outgrown the garage space being used to make the jewellery, the business moves into purpose-built premises which houses its gemstone and goldsmith workshops and provides space for a second retail boutique.
1990’s
Additional Derbyshire boutique openings in Buxton and Chesterfield, whilst a new flagship store in Bakewell allows customers a wider selection of C W Sellors’ designs, which also begin to sit alongside selected fine jewellery and luxury watch brands from around the world. To underpin a commitment to working with British gemstones, the business takes on W Hamond boutique – The Original Whitby Jet Shop, located on Church Street, Whitby.
2000’s
Alongside new boutiques opening in Whitby, Ludlow, York and a second location in Ashbourne, C W Sellors is one of the first UK jewellers to embrace the opportunity of online and launches its first e-commerce site in 2002. Offline, and in what will become the largest event of its kind, C W Sellors holds its first Christmas Wishes event at Chatsworth House.
2010’s
C W Sellors merge with leading e-commerce watch specialists Jura Watches, quickly establishing credentials as the UK’s leading luxury watch specialists. Planning is approved for work to get underway on a new development at Carsington for which C W Sellors will head up a visitor destination showcasing premium products, brands and experiences. The jewellery design team embark on their most ambitious project as they closely work with Chatsworth House to recreate a royal headdress and accompanying ‘House Style’ collection.
2019
Celebrating 40 years in business, C W Sellors collaborate with Faberge to create an exclusive collection of Blue John jewellery and objet pieces. It is a landmark partnership as it is the first time the famous jewellery house has used British gemstones in any of its designs.
2020’s
New boutiques are opened in Shrewsbury and Chester, whilst the flagship Bakewell store has a sizeable floor extension with prestigious new brands being added. The business wins national recognition for its services to raise awareness of UK hallmarking. The first C W Sellors Gift Guide is printed and distributed, ensuring customers are kept in touch with new designs and collections for the coming year.
