TUDOR Enters Sponsorship With Visa Cash App RB Team
Wednesday - 28 February 2024
TUDOR takes its position on the grid spot as it goes full throttle into the Formula 1 World Championship, bearing its logo on the livery of the Visa Cash App RB Team.
The 2024 Formula 1 World Championship is set to happen on March 2nd in Bahrain and to mark the occasion, TUDOR is sponsoring the Visa Cash App RB team. Even more exciting is the fact that the famed Swiss watchmaker, revered for producing the iconic Black Bay watch, hasn’t yet confirmed which watches will be worn by the team’s drivers on the racetrack. Will it be the Black Bay? The Pelagos? Or even an updated version of the discontinued Heritage Chrono (a watch that was featured in my recent Watches & Wonders 2024 predictions list)? Whatever the chosen timepiece be, let it be known that we, as devoted TUDOR fans, are counting down the days until the drivers of the Visa Cash App RB team take their positions on the grid spot.
If you’re an avid Formula 1 fan, there’s good news. TUDOR has announced that the newly named F1 team will now fly the TUDOR flag throughout the 2024 World Championship season. Formally, the team was known as Minardi back in 1979, before it was acquired by Red Bull in 2006 and rebranded to Toro Rosso. Then, in 2019, it was re-branded once more to AlphaTauri. Now, the newly named Visa Cash App RB team will soon reveal the new TUDOR-branded livery, along with the new car ahead of the competition.
TUDOR and Red Bull
There couldn’t be a better time for TUDOR to throw itself into the world of motorsport racing. After all, this is not the first time TUDOR and Red Bull have crossed paths. Last June, the esteemed Swiss watchmaker ventured into a partnership with the America’s Cup team - Allinghi Red Bull Racing. As a result, it birthed two stealthy carbon takes on the Pelagos. In addition to that partnership, TUDOR supported the heyday of motorsport in the 1960s with the TUDOR-branded Porsche. More recently the brand has shown its commitment and shared passion with the release of several motorsport-inspired chronographs that represent the IMSA TUDOR United Sports Car Championship. But back to Red Bull. In addition to this particular collaboration, Red Bull also has a partnership with TAG Heuer and TW Steel, constituing a whole range of Red Bull-inspired watches that you can explore here at Jura Watches.
Representing the best in maritime engineering, the two latest models are inspired by the Red Bull Racing AC75 boat, made from titanium, carbon and stainless steel. With that in mind, the models push the envelope with a strikingly rugged exterior that also benefits from the brand’s fixed strap bars. Inspired by the 29.7m Allinghi Red Bull Racing blue Carbon fibre hull and its 26.5m carbon fibre mast – the two innovative models echo the same shade of blue in their legible dials, each framed by a bidirectional rotating bezel with a matte black carbon composite insert. For added legibility at night, TUDOR experts equip the markings on the dial and the bezel with Grade X2 Super-LumiNova. A time-only and chronograph version is available in this design, both fitted on a matching blue fabric strap with red detailing.
The Pelagos
For those of you who are not fully acquainted with the Pelagos watch from TUDOR, it’s a lightweight titanium diving watch with a helium escape valve and legible diver’s bezel that make it perfect for saturation diving. Its linear design and robust technology are just a couple of reasons why avid divers and water-based sportsmen turn to it for an all-around daily companion. First brought to the market in 2012, its 500-meter water-resistant case was outfitted with a calibre from ETA, but all that changed when in 2015, the brand released its first in-house movement. Since then, these mechanical beating hearts have been meeting chronometer-certified standards. But don’t let the design of the TUDOR Pelagos fool you, you don’t have to be into extreme diving to enjoy this watch. In fact, you don’t even need to be a diver. The Pelagos watch, particularly the FXD type, denoting lugs that are crafted from a single piece of metal, makes for a very practical choice in any luxury watch collection.
What’s Next?
Given the boundary-pushing design of these two new models, built for competing out on the water, it’s only natural to get carried away with the prospect of a possible new TUDOR watch to accompany the brand’s latest partnership. The Formula 1 World Championship is set to take place on March 2nd in Bahrain and the anticipation is mounting ahead of the event’s start time. Accompanying the new team in one of the world’s most high-profile sports, TUDOR will bear its name on the wrists of the same two drivers who took to the wheel last year for AlphaTauri – Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo. The two fan favourites will bear the TUDOR-inclusive livery for the championships and, no doubt, an inaugural watch from the brand. But will they be sporting a new release to mark the event?
For fans who have been left devasted that Bremont will no longer be the official partner at Williams Racing, the new TUDOR and Visa Cash App RB partnership may go some way to softening the blow. The excitement following the latest TUDOR news is articulated perfectly by the watchmaker’s CEO, Eric Pirson, who said;
“TUDOR has always been fueled by a daring spirit, a consistent will to do things differently, and this spirit—we call it Born to Dare—is exactly what Visa Cash App RB is demonstrating heading into the 2024 F1 season. We’re beyond thrilled to return to motorsport with a partner that’s ready to take on the challenge.”
The CEO of Visa Cas App RB extended on this by saying;
“We are delighted to welcome TUDOR to our team. They have a long history in motorsport, dating back to the 60s when they first got involved in sports car racing, as well as historic racing and rallying. Now, the Swiss watch company has seized the opportunity to move up to the very pinnacle of motorsport, joining us, as we tackle the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship with our new Visa Cash App RB identity. Our team will be challenging the status quo in Formula 1 with a strong identity, unique style and uncompromising quality – just like Tudor watches.”
