The Bremont Supernova Watch Collection has Landed

Bremont treads new ground with the release of the new Supernova watch, characterised by the brand’s first-ever integrated bracelet. Its case design alone has taken 3 years to develop and combines the British watchmaker’s patented Trip-Tick construction with a hardened top bezel.

Bremont has embarked on another pursuit of perfection – the development of an innovative case design that supports the company’s first-ever integrated bracelet in the design of the Supernova watch. The 40mm stainless steel model joins the company’s catalogue as a core line that now houses one of the movements from Bremont’s recent fleet of Manufacture ENG300 calibres. The new Supernova watch is offered in dial colours of Pitch Black, Midnight Blue or Albus White and brings a whole new aesthetic to the Bremont universe, incorporating the brand’s patented Trip-Tick case construction and a hardened top bezel.

The new Supernova bracelet

Bremont equips the new Supernova watch with a first – an integrated bracelet. Its design is beautifully executed in a mix of brushed and polished surfaces to enhance the faceted edges of each T-shaped link construction. These angular links not only sit comfortably against the skin thanks to their ergonomic design but are also incredibly durable. They evoke a free-flowing and fluid design that transcends from the top and bottom of the case, right down to the butterfly clasp at the end. The Bremont propeller motif has been meticulously engraved into the surface of this butterfly clasp, augmenting a sense of authenticity and quality craftsmanship.

The Bremont Manufactured ENG375 movement

One of the key features of the new Bremont Supernova watch is its expertly manufactured movement. The ENG375 belongs to the company’s relatively new ENG300 series, launched last year for the first time in the limited-edition Longitude watch. Interestingly, the watch was a homage to the prime Meridian, incorporating a real piece of brass taken from the original Meridian marker and was created in collaboration with Greenwich Royal Observatory. To test their endurance, efficiency and accuracy, the movements from the ENG300 series are subjected to Bremont’s new in-house H1 Timing Standard, named after the brand’s Henley-on-Thames facilities but also Harrison’s first H1 marine timekeeper developed between the years 1730 and 1735. The experimental timekeeper answered the problem of measuring Longitude out at sea. The new state-of-the-art H1 Timing Standard is a platform to measure all of Bremont’s chronometers and is comparable to the ISO3159:2009 chronometer test. It also required huge investment into new machinery, staff and training and ensures that the movements are tested whilst functioning and with all their components and complications intact for better results.

The ENG375 Calibre features a silicone escape wheel, a free-sprung hairspring, 22 jewels, rhodium-plated bridges, a gold-plated automatic bridge, and a solid tungsten rotor (decorated). Performance-wise, the ENG365 produces 25,200 beats per hour and delivers a power reserve of 65 hours. Its beautiful detailing and decoration can be observed via the watch’s flat sapphire crystal exhibition glass.

The rest of the design

The new steel Bremont Supernova watch measures a 40mm diameter and a thickness of 11.1mm, making it slightly slimmer than the newly released Fury and Audley watches. Its patented Trip-Tick construction is executed with finely detailed graining and polished facets, whilst a patented anti-shock movement mount protects the ENG375 Calibre from impact and damage. The watch also features a scratch-resistant DLC-treated case barrel and is integrated with 100-meter water resistance. To assist with this, Bremont experts equip the watch with a screw-down crown – its surface adorned with a polished and enamelled Bremont logo with the brand’s signature decorating ring.

The hands on the Supernova’s dial sit on a raised surface, framed by concentric decoration lines. The hands and Arabic numeral hour markers are all treated with Super-LumiNova in blue emission. The three models in black, blue and white all feature a minute chapter ring around the periphery of the dial marked out by five-minute increments, whilst subtle injections of red can be seen in the tip of the central second hand and the bottom scale of the power reserve indicator, accompanied by a nickel-plated power reserve hand. All of these features are protected by a flat scratch-resistant piece of sapphire crystal glass that has been treated with layers of Bremont’s anti-reflective technology.

Like every Bremont watch, a masterpiece is not merely made overnight. The beautiful angles and curves of the case have been revisited a total of 9 times before Bremont experts were happy with the final design. A whole range of tooling and software has been invested in to create the aesthetic of the new Supernova case. The concentric decoration lines, the curvature of the lugs, facets and surface finishes bring together a unique balance of textures, details and crisp lines. The manufacturing of this case in-house is yet another milestone successfully reached by the British brand, yet one that has not come without challenges.

Nick English explains; “Not only have we had the challenges with scaling up the movement production here in the UK, but we have had to further invest in our case finishing to be able to build the new Supernova, whose final finishing transcends the norm of luxury watchmaking. There are very few watch companies able to build high-quality watch cases in-house and it is clear to us why this is so often the situation.”
