The Breitling Aerospace B70 Orbiter 25th – A Nod To an Epic Voyage Around the World

Take a look at the new vibrantly coloured Breitling Aerospace B70 Orbiter 25th watch. While injecting a shot of orange colour to the wrist, its character and allure run much deeper than its exterior design. The watch encases a unique piece of history within its design that once travelled majestically around the globe. Want to know what it is? Read on.

Breitling has released an enticing iteration of the already popular Aerospace watch. The rugged, unapologetically masculine tool watch now comes with a real slice of living history within its design. Before we get into the details of the new Aerospace B70 Orbiter 25th watch -  let’s take a look at what the Aerospace is and why it has become such a popular collectable to own.

The Breitling Aerospace – The Multifunctional Pilot’s Tool Watch

The Breitling Aerospace is a practical pilot’s tool watch engineered for airborne missions. Featuring all the most important functions of a pilot’s watch, it comprises a chronograph and timer that allows you to track a second time zone while flitting from one destination to another. On another note, the watch is tastefully constructed with ergonomic focus. Its titanium case delivers a lightweight experience on the wrist that remains robust enough for all challenges both in the air and on land.

Interestingly for some enthusiasts, the Aerospace was actually part of the Navitimer series. The first Aerospace Chronograph was introduced in 1985 and featured clear inscriptions on the dial and caseback. One of the model's most characteristic features is the set of grips on the bezel at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock locations. They call to mind the design of the iconic Chronomat and Avenger designs and aid the wearer’s grip when utilising the watch during missions. Even with gloves on, the bezel becomes easy to operate and remains one of the most functional and practical features of the Aerospace design. Another key feature is, of course, its hybrid display. It provides the time both in an analogue format and in a digital format too. There are two-tone versions available in the Aerospace series too. The Aerospace Navitimer watch comes in a titanium and gold design, with bracelet links and rider tabs in a strikingly luxurious golden accent.

The current Aerospace model as we know it today was released in 2013. It boasts a chronograph accurate to 1/100th of a second. As well as this, you get to enjoy a GMT function, a calendar and a timer. Another cool function is its minute repeater, relaying the time in audible signals. The watches also from Breitling’s use of the SuperQuartz Calibre, which promises an accuracy that is ten times greater than any standard quartz movement. The movement is also thermocompensated, which means it can account for fluctuating temperatures without compromising on accuracy. SuperQuartz movements are also COSC-certified, as are many of Breitling’s mechanical movements. For some perspective, a SuperQuartz movement will remain accurate to within a few seconds throughout the course of an entire year.

Key Reasons to Buy an Aerospace Watch From Breitling

As aforementioned, there are many reasons to invest in an Aerospace watch from Breitling. In addition to the model being highly functional and practical enough for any kind of daily use (whether a pilot or not), the watch is lightweight and strong. It features a 1/100th of a second chronograph timer for effortless stopwatch recordings, plus the series benefits from the highly accurate SuperQuartz movement. Lastly, Breitling Aerospace watches have a minute repeater that delivers the time acoustically, along with a handy second time zone function for travel. You can also get the watch in several different versions and choose from a myriad of different dial colours, which brings me to the new Breitling Professional Aerospace B70 Orbiter 25th watch. Suffice it to say, if you’re in the market for a reliable, masculine pilot’s tool watch and you want something that delivers a little something extra to the wrist, you won’t make a mistake in choosing the new Breitling Aerospace watch.

The New Breitling Aerospace B70 Orbiter 25th Special Edition Watch

Released ahead of the annual Geneva watch showcase- Watches and Wonders 2024 - Breitling has revealed a vibrantly coloured Aerospace B70 Orbiter 25th model, complete with a living piece of history within its design. The watch harkens back to an important time in Breitling’s heritage. In 1999, a historical moment in time was achieved when Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones completed the first non-stop circumnavigation of the globe. The mission had failed twice already. They did it in a balloon. More importantly, they did it in the Breitling Orbiter 3. It successfully travelled 45,633km over a duration of 19 days, 21 hours and 47 minutes.

The mission took place 25 years ago and to commemorate the moment in history, Breitling has released the new Aerospace B70 Orbiter 25th watch. It comes clad in a showstopping orange dial colour that mirrors the colours on the capsule itself. The mission logo is also printed on the right hand side of the dial, alongside Arabic numerals that are oversized in the usual Aerospace fashion. The hands, which appear straight to start with and taper to a sword-like finish at the top, have been coated with plenty of luminous material to assist with timekeeping in dark conditions. Whether you choose to wear the watch in the cockpit or while exploring dark and daring environments at night, the luminous details of the Aerospace B70 Orbiter 25th watch won’t let you down.

As I mentioned earlier, one of the key benefits of wearing the Breitling Aerospace, whether a new or older version, is its lightweight titanium case. The material is matched for the bracelet design too, or you could opt for something a little sportier by wearing the watch on a black rubber band. Of course, titanium is a material that is chosen for its superior strength-to-weight ratio. Inside that lightweight and ultra-durable case is the SuperQuartz movement, with ten times improved accuracy over the standard quartz-powered wristwatch. That highly precise quartz movement controls a multitude of features including the 1/100th of a second chronograph timer, and the GMT function. The chronograph is also a flyback complication, enabling the timer to be reset and started again at a simple press of a button. The new Breitling Aerospace B70 Orbiter 25th watch also features two alarms, a countdown timer, a lap function and a perpetual calendar.

The most enticing feature about the Breitling B70 Orbiter 25th watch of all, however, is the slice of history secured inside each special edition timepiece. Flip the caseback over to reveal a sapphire crystal glass caseback, and here you can observe a living piece of history – a real, authentic piece of the original Breitling Orbiter 3 balloon that touched down in the Egyptian desert with Piccard and Jones back in 1999.

And now, a quick run-through of the other features of this watch. The Breitling Aerospace B70 Orbiter 25th Special Edition watch measures to 43mm in diameter and features a vibrant orange dial with two black digital displays to convey the time. The watch is also 100-meter water-resistant and has been equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel made from titanium. The watch, whether on a titanium bracelet or black rubber option, comes equipped with a micro adjustment folding clasp enabling it to fit snugly on the wrist. Lastly, the watch comes in an official branded presentation box, complete with warranty and paperwork, and a guarantee of 5 years.
