Reviewing the Longines Hydroconquest Black & Green Watches of 2023

Featuring a rich black dial surrounded by a deep green ceramic rotating diver’s bezel, the new Hydroconquest watches from Longines follow in the faithful steps of this popular series of watches and come on an option of a robust three-link steel bracelet or a sporty dark green fabric strap

If you’re looking for an affordable and reliable diving watch, the Hydroconquest is a collection of watches you want to explore. Longines, the Saint Imier watch brand, created this range of dive watches that look good with any outfit back in 2007 and since then, the range has been thriving. The luxury watches from this collection are true diving companions. They have been equipped with ample water-resistant capability, luminous hands on the dial, a screw-down caseback and crown, and a unidirectional rotating bezel to offer everything you need for exploring the underwater universe and more.

Without a doubt, Hydroconquest watches for men and women are suitable for scuba diving. Some models boast ceramic elements, whilst others are equipped with an automatic chronograph movement with a column wheel mechanism. The bracelet on a Hydroconquest watch also comes with an extendable fastening, enabling you to wear the watch over the top of heavy diving gear should you need to.

Above all, Longines Hydroconquest watches are loved for their dive-ready look, so it may not come as too much of a surprise to learn that many collectors don’t even purchase their watch to dive with. The collection had a facelift in 2018, where redesigned dials and ceramic bezels were added, not to mention an all-ceramic black model which followed the year after. In that same year, the brand produced the Hydroconquest in a 43 and 44mm diameter for the first time, as well as new offerings in the traditional 41mm size. 2019 was also the year that Longines introduced the Calibre L888 for its automatic three-handed models, whilst the chronograph models used the L688 Calibre. One of the most popular colours of the Longines Hydroconquest watch collection has to be the green variant, which came on board the collection in the year 2020. The dial was combined with a stainless steel and bi-colour metal bracelet option, as well as a supple and sporty green rubber strap. This year, Longines releases two more eye-catching models to the Hydroconquest collection. Both are three-handed models and both feature a shot of deep green colour.

The new Longines Hydroconquest watches for 2023

The two new Longines Hydroconquest watches are the models L3.781.4.05.6 and L3.781.4.05.2. They each have a case forged from stainless steel and communicate a robust and confident demeanour with a rich black dial framed by a deep green unidirectional rotating bezel in ceramic. They also feature large, visible hands that help navigate the way to accurate timekeeping whilst experiencing dark underwater depths. The first reference, the L3.781.4.05.6 is fitted on a stainless steel bracelet, whilst the second reference, the L3.781.4.05.2 is offered on a dark green synthetic strap to pair with the deep green dive bezel.

Both the steel bracelet and fabric strap versions of the new Longines Hydroconquest watch measure a 41mm diameter – the classic size. Its case thickness of 11.9mm will allow it to sit under the cuff of a shirt but will also provide ample wrist presence if putting the watch on show with a short-sleeved top. The models are both water resistant to 300 meters, giving you plenty of scope when wanting to explore deep waters. To help uphold this water-resistant rating, you get a screw-down crown at 3 o’clock, engraved with the Longines logo, as well as a screwed-down caseback that has received an engraved depiction of the winged hourglass logo. The front of both watches is secured with a strong piece of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass, which has received several layers of anti-reflective treatment to its surface. Whether you’re glancing at your watch whilst stepping out of the waves or referencing the time under artificial light, the anti-reflective glass is sure to rid you of any undesirable glare.

The new Longines Hydroconquest watches both feature bold Arabic numerals located in the usual areas of 12, 6 and 9 o’clock, with a legible date window at 3 o’clock, dressed against a colour-matching background. The date numbers are executed in the same colour as the luminous material applied to the hour markers and the central hour and minute hands, with circular markers also located at each hour location. The simple three-handed time and date dial is easy to reference the time from when exploring underwater depths and is framed by a ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel in deep green. The 60-minute scale is outlined in the same sandy-golden beige colour and can be used to measure elapsed time underwater when aligned with the minute hand on the main dial.

The Swiss Super-LumiNova-coated hands on the dial of both these versions of the new Hydroconquest watch from Longines are propelled by the automatic Calibre L888. The self-winding movement produces a power reserve of 72 hours and performs at an impressive rate of 25,200 vibrations per hour. As mentioned, the movement is protected inside a 300-meter water-resistant stainless steel case, protecting it from shock, impact, moisture and heat damage.

As mentioned, you can enjoy this new Longines Hydroconquest watch in black and green on a matching dark green fabric strap, which secures to the wrist with a stainless steel buckle, or go a little more formal with the three-link stainless steel bracelet option that is widely used throughout the Hydroconquest catalogue. The metal bracelet features links executed in a mix of brushed and polished finishes and secures to the wrist comfortably with a double folding safety clasp, as well as an integrated diving extension for wearing over the top of diving gear.
