Reviewing the Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT Blue watch
Friday - 31 March 2023
Before the annual Watches & Wonders Geneva event unfolds, Bell & Ross release the BR 03-93 GMT Blue watch, complete with a unique blue and grey bidirectional 24-hour bezel
The noble GMT complication adds functional value to a watch, making life easier for those who frequently travel or those that just like to track an additional time zone, whether that be for checking when an international sports match takes place on TV or when a loved family member is awake overseas. GMT watches with a 24-hour scale enable you to check whether it’s day or night in a foreign country but they also resist adding unnecessary fussiness to the dial. The Bell & Ross GMT watch range belongs to the BR 03 watch collection and has been released in various iterations over the last few years. The most recent model was the Bell & Ross BR 03 GMT White watch, which followed an earlier black dial version.
The new Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT Blue watch has been released days before the annual Geneva watch showcase – the Watches & Wonders 2023 event. Its deep blue dial colour is both unusual and incredibly sophisticated and follows in the family tradition with a style that has been inspired by aircraft cockpits for many years. As with the whole BR 03 collection, the BR 03-93 serves to assist and support professionals in their daily lives.
The beginnings of the Bell & Ross GMT
The first GMT watch to be released by Bell & Ross was the BR 03-51 GMT Titanium. As suggested in its name, the model was crafted from lightweight titanium and featured a striking carbon fibre dial. Equipped with an innovative second time zone, it was geared towards professional pilots or keen travellers and offered a large date display for tracking the passing days of each month. As the collection evolved, Bell & Ross modified and improved the watch, giving it features like a luminous second time zone treated with SLN 10 X1 white Super-LumiNova that emits a green glow in the dark. The bezel of the BR 03-93 is also bidirectional and the GMT hand is notably clear, fitted with a visible red triangular-tipped feature that points to the second time zone. The bezel is also executed in two tones to differentiate between night and daytime hours.
The new Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT Blue watch is dressed in deep blue and grey tones which makes for a particularly unusual palette. It offers a fresh take on the popular Bell & Ross GMT watch, evoking a contemporary look on the wrist. That said, the DNA of the BR 03-93 watch remains wholly intact with a square-shaped case combined with a circular bezel and dial, along with a visible triangular-tipped GMT hand that parades the deep blue colourway of the dial with its vibrant pop of red colour. The shade of the dial is enhanced all the more by a stylish blue calf leather strap. As a result of this harmonious relationship between colour and functionality, the GMT watch can switch from the office to the cockpit with ease.
There is no mistaking the design of this BR 03-93 GMT Blue watch because no timepiece from Bell & Ross has ever looked quite like this before. Its distinctive grey and blue anodised aluminium bidirectionally turning bezel frames the dial with a legible 24-hour luminous track. The case measures a 42mm diameter on the wrist and has been crafted from stainless steel with a screw-down crown located at 12 o’clock and a sapphire crystal glass front helping to uphold the model’s 100-meter water-resistant capability. The deep. Blue dial of the watch features oversized Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock in white. Luminous by night, these Arabic numerals join stick markers for the in-between locations and a set of visible central hour and minute hands. A date window is given to the usual location of 4:30.
The new Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT Blue watch is powered by the trusty CAL.303 movement. The self-winding engine won’t let you down with its reliable performance of 28, 800 oscillations per hour and its useful power reserve of 43 hours. The watch is fitted on a Nappa Soft blue calfskin leather band and comes with an additional sportier black rubber band. The Bell & Ross logo is also engraved into the stainless steel pin buckle as a mark of quality and authenticity.
